What are ASIO 2.0 drivers?

I ordered this audio interface today and the specs say it
supports MME, Direct and ASIO 2.0 drivers.

The interface is an ESI Waveterminal U24. I ordered it from
Germany (thomann.de) at nearly half of what stores here
want. I needed optical S/PDIF IOs to transfer stuff from my
Akai DPS12 to my laptop, so this is great. It also has
analog IOs, so I can connect my monitors to it.

ASIO is a very low latency audio driver. It's particularly
useful if you're using a midi controller/keyboard (in this
case, via the built in usb port) as you can achieve latency
at under 6ms (vital if you play live with another person
otherwise you'll find it very hard to play in time). Dunno
the differences in asio 2, but I imagine it'd be more of the
same...

Ok, I suppose it could be useful if I move over to Cubase
and start playing with softsynths.
