Your taste in music has nothing to do with how intelligent you are ?
Would you guys agree with this statement ?

My point is based on a scientific study i saw a few years ago that explains how the brain interprets music. the level of intelligence is irrelevant.

there are numerous theories on the relationship between music and the human brain - none have really been solidly proven yet though....

i agree with that...why should it have anything to do with intelligence? perhaps emotional intelligence...

It depends on your definition of intelligence -
are we talking i.q. type of intelligence
or
are we talking an individual with a wide range of knowledge covering all cocepts?
If i.q. then no; im sure Bill Gates isn't a big aphex fan.

I think some music can appeal to you intellectually, but some stuff just grabs you emotionally. And that doesn't make you dumb

if there's some pattern...like classic vs. pop or something
btw, bill is a huge aphex fan!

I wouldn't say that there is direct link between music tastes and intelligence, but I would say that there IS a link between music tastes and open mindedness.
Would you say that open mindedness is sometimes confused with apparent intelligence?

i can't really see how this type of thing can even be investigated at this point. we understand so little about the mind and what 'intelligence' really is. first we need to figure that part out, then we can go from there.
having said that, i'm inclined to believe that there must be some kind of correlation, though i can't site any specific reason for this. maybe i just want to believe it, and be able to use it as a 'evidence' of my intelligence. who knows..

On the other hand, Mozart and Hayden both wrote mathematical treatises on music.
I'm not sure if you analyze a Britney Spears album, you'll find equally challenging material.

that only proves how intelligent the producers are, and again, you're only looking at one kind of intelligence. they are others. you don't have to be good at math to be intelligent.

ok.
now, im not basing this out of any scientific research or anything, but say, you have ICP fans. "ICP" fans on the net are quite possibly some of the most perplexingly stupid people on the internet. it literally boggles the mind, sometimes i think that they are so stupid, that they are, infact, geniuses. but this goes away easily.
i also think that a good amount of people who listen to "IDM" are a tad bit smarter than the typical "ICP" fan.
most ICP fans i see online say stuff like "SIX WRAIGHT COMIN 2 KILL U LOL I WENT 2 JAIL 2DAY FUKR TRI 2 MES WIT ME I FUK HM UP LIKE SHAGY 2DOP PS IMGONG 2 SIXFLAGZ WIT MAH PARENTS"
most idm fans i see online do NOT say stuff like "RICHRD DJIMJAMS COMIN 2 KILL U LOLC OME TO DADDY! ! I WENT 2 NESH 2DAY FUKR TRI 2 MES WIT ME I FUK HM UP LIKE BOGDN N CYBLOB PS IMGONG 2 ATP WIT MAH PARENTS"
there are exceptions to this of course, ive talked to completely nonsensical "IDM" fans and yes, reasonably intelligent "ICP" fans.
im not claiming anything though. just seems to have a trend to it.
course its all on the internet. some people choose to be stupid online and then be really smart offline.

i dont think it effects your taste in music, but intelligence does tend to affect your exposure to music. intelligent people tend to know other intelligent people who tend to know more interesting music

yes, but only interesting in your opinion. People have vary different opinions on what is interesting, especially music. I'm going to stay away from talking about IDM as it relates to intelligence because I feel that there just isn't any way to prove anything one way or another.
