Upstairs At Eric's

Fantastic album.

It's got Seventies bashing, Eighties synth, and Nineties -
grade irony (disco songs dissing disco? C'mon, that's
classic !)

Plus, some genuinely chilling moments (Winter Kills) and one
of the saddest & frightening suicide ballads ever (In My
Room) (at least, it SEEMS like a suicide ballad...)

Even the pisstake (I Before E Except After C) is a
reconstruction of a conversation held upstairs at Eric's.

Overall, it's a sterling work, with my only complaint being
the sparseness of lyrics on some songs and their running
length on others.

9.1 / 10

Yep, Yaz's debut album.

Three years before My brother was born.

me now...'

aphextriplet: once again, a great avatar.

Yes, but their debut was AWESOME.

AWESOME in a 'singing along with a slightly happier Depeche
Mode' way.

Which makes some sense, given that Vince Clarke DM after
Speak & Spell.

and buy everything you people on this board make me want,
me, my children, their children, and their children would be
in debt their entire lives.

yazoo was the original name. but it was taken so they
shortened it. and i think they released an album a few years
back under yazoo. but i've not heard it. *shrugs*

It's YAZOO....as in Alison Moyet & Vince Clarke (post
Depeche Mode)...

YAZZ was that blond late 80s singer...Coldcut collaborator
in the early days...

hehe...I used to be able to play the bassline to The Only
Way is Up...lovely early 303 shit....

(You lot make me feel OLD...:)...
