brilliant topic:) yes hellraiser has a great opening composition, and i do like halloween big fan over the piano notes overtop of horror movie scores, i also think the exorcist has some great sounds too.
I have a few sound tracks myself, Omen being the most notable, hmmm goblin do a fine job with dario argento's flicks.
although i love freddy and the elm street flicks idon't think i would nominate much from the series, something about 80's guitar licks but it does definately fit the flicks.
evil dead has some intersting sounds and the end of night of the living dead has some great eerie sounds too.
I also love the old black and whites abuse of the organ. as far as beautiful music goes idon't think it fits with horror music, not to say that scores aren't amazing and have their own beauty but personally i think the best horror movie scores chill you to the bone and make you feel nervous and on edge, the sounds emphasize the mood and set the tension i guess they can be beautiful in they're own way.

its not clive's fault, it was the film company... they thought it would upset too many faint-hearted people...
anyway, it's a great score, and it's all on "unnatural history II" which is one of my fav coil cds.

i don't think the film company thought that the coil soundtrack was too scary, they just wanted a more conventional orchestral score to make the film more commercial/marketable. nevertheless, the coil soundtrack would have added considerably to the atmosphere of the film.

yeah shame, i say scare tha sh#T out of everyone, its horror, its supposed to be horrorfying, but thats the business world 4 ya.
Mr Barker had a few things in planning and i'd love to see them but not sure if theywould ever see the light of day,
love his books and i'm sure there were a few planned to be made films of.

Psycho and, even though it's not horror, the '02 Solaris soundtrack fills me with dread.
Silent Hill 1-2-3 is the real big daddy of scary soundtracks though.

true, it was clive barker who presented that scenario in interviews. i suspect it makes a better story to say that it was "too scary," and it certainly serves coil's reputation to say so, than to say that "lacking the industry clout to push for greater creative control, i was forced by the financial backers to use a more conventional orchestral soundtrack to create a more marketable product."

wouldnt be the first time coil got turned down.
supposedly reznor clashed with lynch during lost highway, because trent was pushign for them to make an appearance.
the best we got form that was christopherson helping trent on his solo tracks.

Word. That was my favorite thing about Ringu. Do you think you can purchase that anywhere?
It's not a horror movie, but the score Kawai did for Ghost in the Shell is really good, too.
I like The Shining's score, Alien, and some of the stuff on Aliens, actually. I think there's a couple more, but I can never pull them out when I post in these types of threads. :\
