the third act is always bad, rotk not counting because its one large movie.
i mean, return of the jedi, alien 3, leprechaun 3: leprechaun goes to vegas, and now matrix revolutions.
tainting a perfectly good trilogy.

Deus ex machina, hmmmm... interesting choice of words in this context...
Is it possible that all the reviewers so far have missed a few subtle hints in the movie? Hints that point to a much darker possibility underlying the seemingly cheerful finale?

i'm glad they didn't decide to make zion another level of the matrix. there would be really no way to tie the movie up nicely. it'd be the same kind of cop out as if neo just woke up, and the audience never knew if it was a dream or not. the whole movie would've pretty much been pointless.
i'll be disappointed if the acting really is as horrible as aint-it-cool made it out to be, but the ending doesn't sound like the worst thing ever to me.
i mean, i was kinda torn between whether or not i even considered the machines 'bad guys' or not. i mean, if you've seen the animatrix the machines actually seem more logical/good than the humans. it was us who attacked them, they wanted to live peacefully the whole time. it'd be kinda hard to be happy if the humans ended up destroying the machines... and a bit of a letdown if the machines crushed the humans, even though that'd kinda have been cool if it ended up that way.
this seems like a very acceptible ending to me... of course it kinda sounds like the w. bros. may've fucked it up in the execution.

i don't understand why people bash the plot so much. i mean, i can totally understand the argument that the acting is deliberate and stiff, and that the special effects were way over hyped, and those types of arguments. but, really the basic outline of the plot is pretty damn nice if you ask me. wtf kind of crazy expectations to people have for these films?
it certainly isn't the most mind expanding story ever told by the human race or anything, but damn, it's really not that bad. it's simple enough to be understood on some level by the masses, but has enough twists and obsure references to keep the geeks talking about it for years.
what kind of plot would it take to impress you guys?
*waits for the inevitable "a good one" response*

i think that anyone can make anything sound stupid if they are motivated to do so. for each of my favorite films there are individuals who exclaim that it's the worst film they've ever seen (eg "2001" "brazil" "waking life" "city of lost children"). i'm certainly not inclined to trust the rabid hyperbole of a stranger on aicn. i already know there are things i will like and dislike about revolutions, but i will likely see it anyway.

you are right though..
plotwise hardly anything happens in Reloaded. it's just action scene after boring action scene, until the last ten minutes when you get 10 minutes of exposition rammed down your throat - phew! just made it before the end of the film.
to me that is the biggest problem with Reloaded - not the acting, it isn't good, but well, it is an action flick. no, the big problem is the structure of the film, the pacing, how the plot is handled. the film feels like it is in stasis, kept in a coma.
and the argument that it is the middle-part of a trilogy does not work, I'm afraid. they released it as a film, so I will see it as a film - if I had to see it otherwise, they'd better had made one really long film. the whole dramatical arc of the film is non-existant or at least very badly mangled. each film, whether it is part of a series or not, has it's own dramatical arc.
another large flaw in the film is that I just didn't care - why should I care about Neo?

my point is, the only way to find out if a movie is excellent to you is to see it. i don't think that people are "wrong" for not liking these films. i disliked "jerry mcguire" and "titanic," but they are widely regarded as excellent films. not to initiate another redundant "quality as subjective aesthetic perception" discussion...

plaidzebra,
I disagree. I don't want to watch Matrix Revolutions. Matrix 2 was dreadful absolute rot. Granted the actions scenes were good but quite frankly they were pretty OTT as well. I didn't watch T3 and I vowed not to because the original actors weren't present so that was it really. Likewise if they brought out another Alien movie and Signorey Weaver wasn't in it I wouldn't watch it unless it had absolutely exceptional reviews.

i think alot of people over look the fact that the matrix is just a big budget B-Movie.
Thats all it is.
Take it as such: not seriously. Its just a movie. Over the top at times, but in an entertaining way.
Its not meant to be an oscar winning drama, or an intellectual statement. It just uses those elements from time to time.
And just because there are people that take it seriously and think its deep and philisophical... that shouldnt put you off from the movie. It should just put you off of the person. This is just a pop culture movie. Take it as one.

Did anyone see the cast of Matrix 3 this morning on T4? Jeeze didn't they look a sour bunch, ha ha. Obviously they know Matrix 3 is gonna bomb big time. Lol.
