http://www.earlabs.org/label/LC/LC003.htm

anyone ever heard of this? i stumbled upon it in dutch
magazine oor (of all places...) in a review of stephan
mathieu's remix of, well, kapotte muziek.

apparently we, the dutch, also have a history in musique
concrete!! and judging by the abominable remix by mathieu,
who remains one of my heroes, we also have something to do
with noise music.

apparently the man behind kapotte muziek also collaborated
with Merzbow in the early nineties during a live session on
a pirate radiostation. how very underground!

anyway, above link gives you full access to mp3s of his
album which he decided to give away.

i know :/ in a good showcasing of their lack of depth,
though, the reviewer admitted he had never heard the
original piece mathieu had remixed. that's sad sad sad for a
serious music magazine imo. could've done some digging. this
album was rereleased online in 2003 notabene! shame, oor,
shame.

anyway, the music sounds interesting and pretentious
(ofcourse). all recorded analogue, or so it seems :O

yeah it sounds okay.

does sound like it that mp3-ing this stuff does not do it
justice at all, probably a lot of sound-detoriation in the
process.

and on Oor - what a crappy magazine. as you say, their lack
of depth and knowledge is overpowering. interviews that look
like they have been done in 5 minutes, etc.
do they still have that awful "reading time"-thingy on each
article? that was such a bad joke.

no they dropped that, i think (i only pick it up waiting for
the trains, mind you), but they completely messed up their
review section. it's now in alphabetical order, which
surprisingly makes the whole package look even cheaper than
it did.

yeah mp3ing it isn't the best idea it would seem, still,
it's the creator himself who okayed the release this way. it
was probably a better option than repressing 200 copies
without it gaining any relatively widespread attention.

come on you guys! FREE ALBUM! hardcore merzbow collectors
out there should love this :)

cinema... was too young first time around.

ok i like this quote by stephan mathieu about his remix a
lot: taken from staalplaat.com:

"With my rework for the Dutch band Kapotte Muziek, this
concept topped
itself out. I spent eight months processing raw material,
resulting
in the usual several gigabytes. When it was about time for
me to
finish the piece I returned to my files to edit them down in
ProTools
(Mac OS9). I re-listened to everything, made some
adjustments, and
then rebooted in OSX to work in Soundhack. After a little
while my
machine crashed, hard -- so hard that all I could do to
restart it
was to take out the batteries. When I finally rebooted in
OSX it did
nothing else but play this music for 30 minutes, a medley of
my
Kapotte Muziek material, finished by the computer itself"

lol! i paid plenty euros for that! seriously, i appreciate
it more now :)
