Ho ho. Got this idea from somwhere else. Say what you will
about comparing bands, who > who and whatnot, but I need to
know the general consensus.

I prefer New Order. The Mode are flashier, but there's this
spare, melancholy feel to the Order, especially to their
earlier albums, that gets me everytime. The guitar lines in
particular... they have a lot in common with Joy Division in
production and composition. My favorite era from either
artist is first couple of New Order albums, so much Joy
Division influence there. Weren't out of Ian's shadow yet (a
good thing, I'm not as fond of their lusher, dancier work).

Lyrically, I like the calm, subtle, open ended feel of a lot
of NO songs, especially the early ones. Gore's lyrics seem a
bit harder to swallow for me, more melodramatic and forced,
to my ears. A lot of it may have to do with delivery
though... I love Sumner's cold voice, but Gahan is more of a
permormer, more emotion. But I'm not always a fan of
emotion.

I'm not a big fan of the Mode's first three albums, they
took a while to hit their stride.

I love them both though. I just like deathmatches, and
apples and oranges, it's a vice. I don't know who'll win.

Mode. Hands, feet and ass down. No competition.

Not a poll, per se. I WISH we could make them. Just asking
who you preferred, and why, if possible.

And I misspelled ''performer''.

Testify.

I guess it's not even close, New Order have been officially
DEPECHED. I'm going to put on Leave Me Alone now.

I like basically everything I've heard by both bands, but
I've heard more Depeche Mode, so they get my vote... I need
to get some New Order albums though... and some more Depeche
Mode albums... so much music to buy, so little time... and
money!

I'd have to say Depeche Mode simply because of the
familiarity factor. I have multiple DM albums, no New Order
yet. Although I am a huge fan of eighties synthpop in
general and New Order had some tracks that epitomized the
genre like no other. Next to IDM I think late
eighties/early nineties synthpop is the very best genre..
amazing sequencing and emotion by and large.. but often
overlooked. Both of these bands contributed immeasurably to
the style.. even though they were wuite different.
This comparison/contrast reminds me of the Kraftwerk vs.
Tangerine Dream debate..

Depeche Mode, hands down, their music converted me from Goth
Rock to Electronic Music Fan.

Plus I am a bigger Joy Division fan than I will ever be a
New Order fan.
