Elliott Smith...

I'm glad to see there hasn't been much pissing and moaning
about this poor, rich, rockstar committing suicide. I'm
almost as tired of hearing about Rock Star suicides as I am
when a member of the Kennedy Family dies.

There has been moaning here. And there SHOULD be!

I meant in general, not just on here. There hasn't been the
Kirt Cobain effect. And why cry about it? He obviously got
what he wanted, we should be happy for him.

Oh, that's such a controversial thing to say. Be careful not
to offend anyone.

his upcoming one is a double album that is supposed to be
his best work to date, a sort of stylistic summation of both
his stripped down songwriting & recording and latter day
orchestrated production. also it'll be released on an indie
label instead of dreamworks.

I was very sad when I found out. He was so talented. It's
always sad when someone commits suicide, especially when
they are "rich and famous" because everyone expects money
and fame to bring you happiness, but apparently it doesn't
always. I think drugs probably were involved and a lot of
lost hope.
Elliot Smith did get to live a life devoted to his craft
which is admirable.

People commit suicide everyday and we don't give a shit
until it's someone famous who dies. There are tons of people
out there that live horrible, hard lives and what they do is
deal with it. They don't go kill themselves because it is
too hard. Whatever happened to being greatful just for being
alive? People who commit suicide get what they deserve and
desire. I don't want to have to hear about it. I'll put my
tears into someone who loved life and had it taken from them
as opposed to someone who just took everything they have for
granted and ended their own.

he stabbed himself in the chest. i think his suicide is
noteworthy if only for that.

I wonder if he'll see a sales spike in his albums?

I'm not going to judge him, being famous aside. We don't
know what was going on in his life. Money doesn't mean shit.
And the knifing... wow, he's a better man than I.

you don't get it dude. we're mourning the suicide of one
person, not expressing our disdain or apathy for everyone
else who commits suicide or even dies in a less shameful
way. it's not black and white, we can feel bad about one
person's death without not feeling bad about everyone
else's. this is where i call you a moron or something for
not only thinking this but having the misguided bravery
(more like attention-seeking, shit-stirring gall) to say it.
get a clue and get a life.

most people who commit suicide arent in the frame of mind to
realize such things you claim to be so easy

do you realize that things who say may affect other people?
someone on this board could have experianced a suicide, its
not something to be flamed so blatantly

I'll tell my mother that.

Okay, I take it all back. I guess I know how it feels. I'm
still broken up about Tchaikovsky committing suicide.

elliot's last show happened to be him and his guitar playing
my college campus.
I was there

after it was over I said "gosh, I sure am worried about our
friend elliott smith. he doesn't look happy!"

yeah he was a rock star
he had talent
and now he's dead.

let's laugh about it
ha fucking ha

By devoting a thread to his suicide you are adding to the
hype.

what I take offense to is the dumb, and I mean DUMB
generalisations this ass is making about suicide.

NEVER make crass judgements about something like this -
there is a whole world (to be exact, a whole person) behind
something like this.

all this bullshit about being greatful for life, they
deserve to die because they didn't love life - that's the
fucking joke. how you can believe romantic crap like that is
beyond me.

qrter: marry me. I want to bear your children.

brutal and morbid assumptions are mean and horrible.
