Unsung Hero(s)

Aaladorn from Texas on 2001-11-20 16:07 [#00053847]

New question, what are your favorite artist(s) or band(s)
that you feel don't get the recognition they deserve?

I'd have to say The Residents, they've been creating music
for 25+years. They made some of the first music videos, and
they had a style all thier own.

So, who is your unsung hero?

Caberet Voltaire, surely?
And there's a track by Walter Carlos on the "Clockwork
Orange" soundtrack CD that's really really Aphexy, but done
20 odd years ago. Genius...

The ColdSTORAGE tracks from WipEout 1 are some great techno
and house tracks. I know the guy who did them {cant remember
the name} is a tart who dropped the ColdSTORAGE project.

I thought of some new ones.

Godspeed You Black Emperor
Mouse on Mars
Tricky
Matmos (gaining popularity due to Björk)
and yeah, Bogdan Raczynski

I'm really glad to see Sigur Ros getting some attention,
really good stuff.

The_Funkmaster from Newfoundland, Canada on 2001-11-21 16:39 [#00054192]

Sigur Ros... you know, I heard something today that Sigur
Ros won an award in the US... basically they said it's the
equivalent of the Mercury prize in England...

Aaladorn from mp3.com/aaladorn on 2001-11-21 17:01 [#00054198]

Yeah, they did win an award, an award I never heard of,
something like "new sound" or something. I don't know what
the hell it is.

crunch, imaginary fantasy, chulk, james bohn. Even aphex
twin, autechre, though they're fairly popular already, more
people should notice material that is superior in quality
and way more thought out than average.
