if all your CD collection would burn down...

...what would be the first ones you'll re-buy again first?

(and which ones would you NOT re-buy at all, if you want?)

(this is supposing, of course, that you do not commit
suicide after it happens... well, you might...)

I had most of my CD's stolen once, I wanted to kill. So I
did. And I pried them from his cold, dead hands.

first ones I would buy would be aphex twin, Coil, susumu
yokota and bjork cd's.

I love all my cd's so there wouldn't be any I wouldn't buy
again. I always sell ones I dont want to keep anyway.

my first priorities would be (in that order probably):

Massive Attack - Mezzanine
Amorphous Androgynous/FSOL - The Isness
Aphex Twin - SAW II
Björk - Homogenic
Sonic Youth - A Thousand Leaves, or Dirty
Tool - Ænima
Aphex Twin - ...I Care Because You Do

and then:
Nurse With Wound - Man With The Woman Face
Fluke - Risotto (or another one)
Einstürzende Neubauten - Fünf Auf Der Nach Oben Offenen
Richterskala
The Young Gods - Only Heaven
Opeth - Blackwater Park
Opeth - Damnation
and... i don't know!!

i'd probably think of suicide for some days, then of giving
up music for some other days, then... ; D

read!

fucking sucking baby brains via surgikal vakumz!

k, to answer ur q: it'd be a sad one to have an audio friend
to help share the pain:

nin: the fragile.

ambience to help me forget/escape:

afx: saw2

and heavy shit for totally flipping out and killing my town
with my realultimatepower!!!:

manson: antichrist
nin: TDS

( i would buy any Coil i'd find, but they're so damn hard to
get that... =/ )

eXXailon > it's not really a "what are your favourite
albums" thread.
the albums i've quoted are my essential albums, the
ones i listen the most to, and some varied selection - not
the ones i think are the best or even my
favourites. otherwise you guess 'The Fragile' would
have been in there, and Coil too!! ; )

All my Beatles albums, and... oh man. I'm shaking just
thinking about it. I have no idea...

I DO know that there's a shitload I wouldn't bother buying
again, I'd just download them. But there's way too many that
I NEED.

I'd rather lose my nuts then my CDs.

the CDs i could do without in my collection (not counting
the ones i have in mp3 only) are:

Add N To (X) - Loud Like Nature
Boards Of Canada - Geogaddi
Autechre - ep7
Venetian Snares - Higgins Ultra Low etc.
Guns'n'Roses - Appetite For Destruction

not that many in fact...!

I'd prefer my testicles over my CDs anytime. I'd rather burn
my Cds then.

Admittedly, I would cry like a girl really hard and really
long if I lost my albums.

I've got TONS of CDs I bought in the mid/late-mid 90s that
range from totally useless now (Offspring, Moist, Green Day,
The Tea Party, Alanis Morrisette, Tragically Hip ) to
downright embarrasing (Creed).

I still like Green Day and the rest of the first group, but
I might listen to them... like, once a year. I'd survive
without them. I'd like to pawn them off, actually, the MP3s
are enough for me in those cases... the Creed CD is the only
one I hide. And it's not even that bad, since My Own Prison
isn't as awful as the new stuff.

Anything I've bought since the late 90's is indispensible
though. And so are my balls, actually. I was just kidding, I
love them.

Reich - Drumming
Aphex - ICBYD and SAW2
Ae - Garbage and Amber
Bola - Soup
Bjork - Vespertine (and all the others)
Deroufle's (sp?) Requiem
Courtney Pine - Underground
Pat Metheny - Under the Missouri Sky

and I wouldn't have bought

the Blade soundtrack
Propellerheads - (longtitlecan'tremember)
Any JMJarre

this did happen to me. but since i encode all my
cd's to mp3 and store them on my computer, i didn't lose the
music, ya know? however, so far the ones i have replaced
are:

RDJ Album (i've had to buy this 4 times due to the all the
use)
Antichrist Superstar
The Downward Spiral
Further Down The Spiral

i've ended up buying more cd's that i didn't already own,
instead of replacing what i'd lost (since i still had the
music).

first of all, if all my cd collection burned down (which
would be about 700 cd's, so several thousands of dollars
worth), you better believe i'm scamming my home insurance
for 1000 replacements. know that.

but back to the question, the first one i'd rebuy would
either be something i've been listening to a lot lately--say
hood's "cold house", the new outkast, or madlib's "shades of
blue"--or one of my all-time favorites i've been listening
to for years, like radiohead's "ok computer", outkast's
"atliens", dj shadow's "endtroducing", bjork's "homogenic",
tool's "aenima", etc. if i had to pick one first
replacement, it'd be ok computer.

Some of my favs have been long out of print (PWEI albums,
various gamelan records). I'd be so mad, I wouldn't be able
to move.

Off the top of my head, and keep in mind, there's a hell of
a lot more than this:

Phoenecia - Brownout

Cody ChesnuTT - The Headphone Masterpiece

FSOL - ISDN

Leafcutter John - The Housbound Spirit

PJ Harvey - Is This Desire?

Quicksand - Slip

This Heat - Deceit

Aphex - SAW II, RDJ Album, Windowlicker EP (preferably the
Japanese import)

Don Caballero - Don Cab. 2 (worth it for trk #4 alone), What
Burns Never Returns

Slint - 2 trk EP (fucking great), Spiderland

Tortoise - TNT

Autechre - EP7

The Sorts - More There

Miles Davis - A Kind of Blue

There is more, I am sure...

I'd probably freak out even more if my CD-R racks got
explodeded. Porn, movies, albums, miscelleaneous, all
gone... at least with my ''real'' CDs, a couple hundred of
them don't have a chance of getting used again anyway.
