The new Nine Inch Nails album...

I hear that he got Richard devine to create a whole wealth
of samples for him. Why do I have the feeling that this new
CD is going to sound like Aphextwin with distortion?

I'm really really disapointed about that band now, most of
their cult following is a ton of slipknot retards and in the
span of almost 10 years he release 1 new album.

For someone that BORROWS a lot of ideas from underground
acts, he sure does take his fucking time making a cd.

ANYWAY I just looked at the sleeve for their newest remix
album in which TELEFON TEL AVIV remixed some songs. They
hardly give him any credit (Additional programming???) and
you know for a fact that he did most of the track (Listen
for yourself and you'll know what I mean...)

Anyway I don't care if this album is worth the wait cause
shits gonna hit the media fan and ruin everything for me
anyway. Trent is going to be a huge pop icon this time round
I fear ...

BET YEAH 20 bucks!!!!

I try to look past the hype about him. Fact is, he did some
great songs, that i still enjoy. Espicially from pretty hate
machine.

again

Yeah, the guy was my childhood hero I guess. The only reason
why I wanted to make my own music on computer was cause I
admired him so much. Now its like NIN is fucking everwhere
it sucks : |

I wish he would kill the band off and start something new
(That isnt TAPEWORM). Something where he would release more
then 1 album a decade. Like his Piano shit is awesome he
should just release some of that...

hey. he was The Dude for me when I was little too. But then
my balls dropped. And then I heard Aphex Twin.

Heheh, i know what you mean.
I used to like NIN because it was different from the usual
guitar/bass/drum setup that I had listened to forever.
But then lyrics became more important to me--
and eventually I discovered electronic music has been done
better.

Same for me, they just still sort of have a place in my
heart

It was "aphex twin mix" on the further down the spiral
album, that got me further, among other things.

It's funny seeing you staking a claim to Trent and whine
about his other fans. I first got into NIN when you were
probably a toddler and used to to be a time when my peers
used to complain about teeny tots like yourself showing up
for everything Trent. Get past it and over it. He doesn't
just BORROW from the underground he has been an active
participant and well spring of the many ideas that keep
getting regurgitated in the so called underground. The
time he takes on each release attests to the quality of each
of these releases. If he was a fady sold out fat cash cow
that you seem to be making him out to be, surely he will be
cashing in and releasing music every so often to rake in the
cash and not take his sweet old time each time.

Plus the idea of Trent going solo is quite ridiculous. NIN
IS Trent solo. The band is just rudimentary support crew.

Farrrrrrrrrrrrr better. Side by side Aphextwin is the better
product.
Even KMFDM has lost its pazazz (if they ever had any).
Skinny Puppy still rules though : )

I guess we all have to grow up sometime I guess : |

KMFDM was the shit. I remember getting so pumped playing
with my GIJOES to that guitar'd up mix of Juke Joint
Jezebell on the Mortal Kombat Soundtrack. I think The
Fragile was a disappointment in that it was a really
sharpened, beautifully projected idea, it's just the idea
itself was boring and meh.

like big annoying whiner to me... just my opinion of course,
if you like his music great... I don't want to start any

Personally I cant wait for the next release from Trent... he
was so talked about on rec.music.industrial on the USENET
they had to give him his own newsgroup.

btw Trent was doing his own drill n bass experiments roughly
around the same time when RDJ started dabbling in it. If you
need proof listen to the tracks he made for the Lost Highway
soundtrack released in 1996 the same time as the first RDJ
drill n bass stuff started to appear. Granted the beats on
these tracks were inspired by his long time opening act Alec
Empire and ATR but why compare and match apples and oranges.
RDJ's music comes from an entirely different emotional
landscape than Trent Renzor's does.

Flea, Ive been listening to NINsince pretty hate machine...
THERE WERE NO MORE ALBUMS BEFORE THAT.

He was in a band called OPTION 30 prior to that then THE
EXOTIC BIRDS. They sucked.

I guess I am pretty ignorant for judging all NIN fans are
dumb *shoots self in head*

I'm not going to fight about this with you flea cause you
don't seem know enough about the band to hold a decent
argument (WHOOPS! Their goes that ignorant thing again)

Shit wheres my thumb I need to suck it ...

Yeah that dre thing was weird, I guess he was looking to get
aylia to sing for him but then she died ...
The Fragile was made by everyone who was in the band at that
time. I met up with keith hilbrent outside a show once and
he told me a ton of stories it was a dream come true : )

Everytime they talked about trent they seemed scared it was
really funny as if he beated them or something ... lol

KMFDM, GIJOES, SnakeEyes, A Red Marker *for blood, of
course*, and maybe a Spawn Toy or two (when they just
started coming out, took action figures to the next level),
and BOOM! I gots myself an ass-kicking showdown!

I don't know, I've always liked it... it was probably the

also, the Johnny Cash version is kick ass!! Maybe even
better (imo of course) then the original...

#Flea, Ive been listening to NINsince pretty hate machine...

THERE WERE NO MORE ALBUMS BEFORE THAT.

Well your year of birth being 1983, that makes you the first
7 year old to buy Pretty Hate Machine upon it's release. I
first heard demo version of "Down In It" on college radio
in 1989, first saw NIN live on the first Lollapalooza in
1990. I think that gives me a slight bit of a head start on
you.

That whole story about all the other band members
contributing to Fragile is a bit of PR Excercise to Sell NIN
as a proper ROCK BAND to all the kiddies unaccustomed to
ideas of One Man Studio et al with a backing band to flesh
out his idea. To our generation with other one man projects
such as FOETUS commomnplace, he didn't have to sell the idea
of solo performer very hard.

ok, first., who gives a fuck about who heard nin first, i
didnt start getting into them until around 1999-2000.. and
it wasnt from hearing them on radio or whatever (and who
cares if it was?).. i just walked into the cd store one day
and thought to myself 'i'm gonna check out this nin band'
and picked up the downward spiral.. took it home and i liked
it.. and i really like the fragile.. not just because it's
reznor's work, but because its a well-produced well written
album.. i dont pay attention to lyrics so i dont give a fuck
about what he's on about.. all i know is he's a damn good
songwriter/producer/etc .. and yes, i do also love pretty
hate machine + broken + etc..

and who cares if he's getting some popularity? goddamn, just
because something sells really well, doesnt mean it sucks
and you shouldn't be caught listening to it..

i think everyone should stop being so fucking elitist, it
really pisses me off and i'm sure a lot of other people get
pissed off too..

sorry this was my big vent against idm snobs., but i do
agree that trent's piano tracks are fucking awesomahj

whether or not the new NIN album is good or not will depend
on Reznor's ability to go out and have some new shit happen

Predictions for the new album:

-Most of the songs will feature sparse, minimal electronic
sounds (as has been rumoured), and semi-dramatic
arraingments.

-Mr. Devine will mostly provide insane glitchy sounds that
act as transitions between tracks, as well as random
scatterings throughout.

-The album will feature more piano than previous albums,
with the piano being accompanied by the minimal electronic
sounds mentioned above.

-Mr. Reznor will have been defeated by his inability to
surpass the subject matter that has been beaten to death on
previous albums, and will spend this album rolling around in
agony and letting his listeners know all about his problems
in a non-specific fashion to ensure thousands of goth-kids
will be able to convince themselves that the songs were made
for them and their problems - quotes will appear on profiles
throughout the internet.

-There will be included the traditional vulgar track
designed for airplay and play on television in the form of a
video - it will be better disguised than it was on The
Fragile.

Flea, i don't think the guys age has much to do with him
being into NIN, it is possible that he could not at that age
grasp the meaning of the tracks, b ut he could certainly
understand that they could be meaningfull. for example,. at
age ten i was an avid collector of bands like depeche mode,
pet shop boys, new order and eraasure. I saw my first dm
show at age nine i and i loved it. however, i don't feel
that i was mature enough to really get right with it.
nonetheless being into that music at such a young age has
given me a tremendous amount of musical insight down the
road of life,

a favorite example would be when i use to slam down afx
tracks at house parties to shocked-ass gangsters, really
freaking them out...

people like to prove their uniqueness by listening to
unknown bands. once the band is mainstream they are no

offline -V- from Ensenada Drive on 2003-10-22 16:01 [#00914157]

For me, I think it has more to do with change in feeling
between before and after. Before a band becomes mainstream,
it has a more closed and isolated feeling about it as you
really probably won't hear, except in the very rare case or
if you go looking for it, anyone even mention them
(especially if you stay inside and away from people). This
allows you to create their own opinion of the music and keep
it intact due to the lack of influence of others.

Once it becomes mainstream, it's very hard to block out all
of what is said about the band. Suddenly everyone has an
opinion of it, whether good or bad, and everywhere you go
you're bombarded by them. Most all opinions will at least
have some vague aspect of truth to them, and it could be
extremely difficult not to be influenced by them. Then
there could be the people who you happen to feel like the
music for all the wrong reasons ("they've got nice hair",
"funny lyrics", etc.) and could care less about how
skillfully the composition of the music was constructed, and
this bothers you because they're not giving the music the
respect it deserves, then they become plentyful and somehow
make the band into something that it really isn't. All of
these things just feel like pieces of what you had
previously thought are being chipped away... and in my
opinion, it does make the music less enjoyable. It's like
having thousands of people each put a grain of sand in your
icecream - you can pick out a few grains, but after so many,
it's ruined.

(sorry this is probably badly written)
