Green Calx

aperson on 2001-11-19 22:08 [#00053592]

This song is freaking awesome. I just started listening to
it on SAW 85-92 and it just blow me away. Quite arguably my
favorite aphex song ever.

Phobiazero from Sweden on 2001-11-19 22:15 [#00053594]

I def. agree with you. One of the best!

emaN from noitacoL on 2001-11-20 00:21 [#00053637]

It's cool to see some people on this MB have enoufg taste to
know that green calx is awesome (doesn't surprise me by phob
:) ) first time I heard it I thought I wouldn't find a
better 303 line after...
just fucking mind blowing... i'm going back to rebirth!!!

aperson on 2001-11-20 00:31 [#00053644]

Glad to see I'm not the only fan of this song. But I'm not
too much into making music outside of being gay and using
Fruity Loops, would you mind explaining what a 303 is? (I
have a clue but I'm not too sure)

emaN from noitacoL on 2001-11-20 00:35 [#00053646]

TB303 : a roland analog bassline, build back in early 80's,
the particualr sounds (especially with full reso and playin
with the cut off) made it very popular and because it was
quickly out of production the prices went UP UP UP!!! it's
now like 1000$!!! fuck the hell out of roland for stopping
producing it!!! i'll never be able to buy one :°-(

emaN from noitacoL on 2001-11-20 00:37 [#00053647]

if u look in the explore section of this site u can see a
photo of it, the Joyrex j9i ep, had the cd (not sure) shaped
like it

emaN from noitacoL on 2001-11-20 00:38 [#00053648]

PAF! it's surely not a CD but a VYNIL!!

Neo-Geo-Hippy-Tosser-Yeah whatever arsehole. on 2001-11-20 01:28 [#00053656]

pah, green calx wouldave been so much better if it wasnt
included on an ambient album..for that reason, its
pants...ruins the whole mood.

rF on 2001-11-20 01:32 [#00053658]

truth

it would've been better on one of the analogue bubblebaths,
maybe 3 or 4..

Ophecks from Nova Scotia on 2001-11-20 02:36 [#00053685]

Green Calx is my FAVORITE calx, followed by yellow, and blue
is a distant third. Green Calx is fucking awesome, oh man...

The_Funkmaster from Newfoundland, Canada on 2001-11-20 03:03 [#00053699]

Yellow Calx is the one from the RDJ album right? :)

I love that one!!!... :)

Phobiazero from Sweden on 2001-11-20 07:37 [#00053759]

I can't see why the track would have been better on another
album. :-)

I'm pretty sure Rich was <20 when he made that track. That's
cool enough. I'm not sure when the 303 saw the light of day
tho.

Green Calx is great. You know, it actually means green
calcium. hmm, interesting ;)

Actually, a green metallic compound, like an oxide, like
lime...a calx is product of a oxidized metal...

I never met a calx I didn't like...;.)

Is it me or does this track seem louder than all the other
tracks on SAW1....

Just my opinion, but the song absolutely repulses me. My
stomach just turns after the first little sound effect.
Bleugh.

I really like it. It kind of breaks up the album really
nicely while it still fits in somehow. The acid is so
squelchy... mmmm. And I like the distant sound effects and
hints of speech samples. SAW1 rules.

Don't listen to the old Ophecks, listen to the new. Green
Calx is NOT my fave anymore... that would be Yellow Calx.

Green is OK, but not very ''ambient'', is it? :-/

Its good, I especially like the intro, there's a real
'spacey' feel to it. I always picture a space ship of sum
sorts landing on a moon at the start, then rhubarb bears
poring out of in and thrusting around everywhere, wahaha!

Green calx owns. It was the first real hint of where afx
would go with later, more beat oriented music.
Plus the commander keen fart beat is awesome.

If I could have picked a track from sawI to make a video
for, it would have to be this track

blue calx > green calx > yellow calx
for me :)

they all have something that make them great... i even
wondered once if all calxes weren't remixes of the same song
(but i wondered so many stupid things... ;))
