do you consider any artist to be the new "king" of
electronica?

i dont think so, the whole genre is going downhill, (almost)
everyone is stuck in ideas from a few years ago, that holds
for sp, ae, boc and aphex.
there are a few nice releases every couple of months nothing
is really going on.

i do not demand being cutting edge all the time but i see
the whole genre stagnating.

even commercial acts show more evolution then most
electronica artists do.

mm kraftwerk were the 'gods' or fathers i think.. i mean i
know there were other 'electronica' bands such as tangerine
dream but they invented the drum machine didnt they?

oh! i saw some random band on MTV the other day. the name
was something like
'T.schilandihive' (hey thats a cool name) or something i
cant remember it sounded German. More squarepusher then
Aphex, the video was basically some guy banging on a drum
set but the fact that it was on MTV obvioulsy means
something.

I consider Mouse on Mars better over most on Warp, but
they've been around for a very long time.

I feel Aphex will do something very soon. I mean when
windowlicker came out, that blew me away completely. i
couldnt listen to normal hip hop, it was to bland in
comparison.

As soon as AFX puts out another dish of delights, he's back
on the throne. Also..

I have re-discovered the genius of Aleksis Perälä.
Astrobotnia is so good.

Why does there need to be a 'new' aphex? Do you all realize
that since this modern electronic music movement started in
90-91, there has been thousands of good releases that you've
probably not heard? Rather than looking for something new,
go and find something good and old. You'd be surprised by
what you find.

no joke! i couldn't agree with you more. it's a shame more
people here don't tune in to my radio show, i try to
introduce people to old and new stuff they're not yet
familiar with but will love based on their taste in music.
oh well, i guess it's "lp5" another 3 times tonight, right?

i'll just have to play everything on my show in fast-forward
and tell them i have an exclusive autechre megamix.. that or
put a flanger effect on everything and say it's some boards
of canada demos from the 1950s1980s

I don't think there's a new artist to usurp Aphex's reign
anytime soon. Deinitely some good stuff out there, though.

what a viscious plug...tasty...

IDM is a very "fuled" genre...evolving as quickly as MS's
sheduled obslentance modle...

give me more...diffrent...exotic...

it's very much like a addiction, or porn, or any other
addiction, you get numbed, and need something even more
shocking to stimulate.

Who says Richard is the best producer? What about Wolfgang
Voigt?

Also, ?T.schilandihive?, I believe you mean T.Raumschmiere,
or Marco Haas who has had notable releases on Kompakt,
Shitkatapult, Hefty, and novamute.

idm changes so much that it doesn't, if you catch my
meaning. it may constantly push forward but really it's all
the same shit. same ideas slightly altered. i too prefer
more exotic music that isn't obsessed with "change" (and
thus truly changes more and is a more rewarding experience
for its diversity and depth).

I think the past few years has been plagued with this
obsession (I call it Snares-itis) to make things sound
unlistenable as possible; AE seems to have caught this
disease the worst of all.

Tits is right - it's all variations on different themes, but
what music isn't?

I'd rather have 10 artists that try to take an existing idea
to heights unknown than 100 artists doing "groundbreaking"
stuff that does not resemble music anymore.

Some examples Nacmat: Look up Psyche/BFC, CiM, Christian
Vogel, Cannibal Ox... I can't think of any more off the top
of my head, but it's out there. And yes, some of these
artists have recent releases too, so it's not all older
material.

Ah! thought of some more:

Anthony Rother, HUMAN, Laurent Garnier, Alder & Elias, David
Holmes... the list goes on.
