Same thing happened to me last night. I was tired in the day as I'd only slept for about 5 hours the night before, I was having difficulty concentrating on my work so I went to be for 3/4 of an hour, asking my mother to wake me. I was annoyed to find I woke up and it was 2 hours later... Not only did this put me behind on my work, meaning I had to stay up last night, but also that I couldn't sleep last night till about 2am and I had a 6.30am start today. I snatched a quick hours sleep at lunchtime today in my car because there are no common room type facilities on the whole of campus.

Have you tried self hypnosis?
Sounds naff but it's a realy good way to relax your mind and body.
I've been having alot of trouble getting to sleep latley too. But it could be something to do with a change in my shifts. I hate working shifts, I have no body clock any more =o(

try Hyland's Calms Forte sleeping pills -- all-natural, non-addictive, and work like a charm (for me at least)

Definitely 76:14 over SAWII :]
Anyway, yes I have that same problem, I know it sounds typical, but laying there will tire you out after awhile....it's just well boring.
All nighter it is!

what works for me (except on sunday nights) when i wanna put myself off to sleep is to suddenly do a bunch of pushups and situps as fast as I can and then read a book in silence, somehing boring.
i end up passing out
