MIDI PISSES ME OFF! In some programs it works(badly, and
only in Acid, where I don't really NEED it to work), and the
timecode-stuff is fucked up(i don't know what to set this
to). I can't make it work in Reason (2.5) or any other
program (xcept, of course, for acid).

I have a Roland XP-30 synth, but the problem probably lies
in the fact that I'm using the built-in MIDI-thingie in the
soundcard(MPU-404 or something like that), but that really
shouldn't cause problems, 'cause it IS a
midi-connection-thinge(dinnae what to call it), and it works
fine in Acid. WHY WON'T REASON WORK?

This might be obvious, but you have enabled midi in reason
right?

hmmm

so, you just want to be able to play the reason modules,
with the xp-30?

we actually used the xp-30 in our labs... and I help alot of
people getting the xp-30 to work with reason...

however, we use OSX, and your on a PC it seems... so Im not
sure...

i mean, besides checking the MIDI control setup in the
prefrences menu of reason, and clicking the MIDI icon to the
left of the track (in the arrange section) to select which
track MIDI is being sent to, and making sure the XP-30 is
setup right (which I know it is... seeing as you said it
works on other programs)...

i dont know what to say...

is this a cracked copy of reason by chance?

sorry that I couldnt help more :-\

im assuming that this soundcard also has the midi interface
on it?

and youve gone through the whole midi setup?

working? Well, it should be"

haha

yah, NO SHIT

i did get a software disc with it now that i think about it
- maybe i should take a look then.

whats your MIDI cables plugged into?

hmm.. i've got MIDI enabled, but is it important to have
midi input routed through that "MIDI-in device" thingie
that's all the way up top? It says in the helpfile that it
isn't really necessary unless you have more than one
midi-device connected...

The real problem, i think, lies in the "timecode" or "clock"
settings(in reason, there's only "MIDI clock sync," but i
don't really know how to set this up... i don't know what
the synth uses for this. I think this causes some sort of
sync problem in Acid, because the line indicating what part
of the song is being played gets delayed, and sometimes it
sticks. In acid, i can choose what type of sync i'm going to
use, but it never seems right.. all in all, it might be a
sync problem...).

no, the midi in device at the top isnt nessasary at all.

how about at the bottom, on the control panel, with the
start and stop... over to the left, it says "midi sync"
"focus" "enable" :midi" etc...

alls you should need highlighted is MIDI and PLAY

you may also want to check your XP-30, to see what channels
its sending MIDI to...

hmm.. i do believe it is sending on 1. that would be
standard, right? i haven't really messed with stuff like
that... the problem is i think reason most likely will feel
like putting the midi OUT through the synth again, and that
will just remove the point in using reasons synths and
samplers... i've noticed now that even when i play midi
files in a normal player(windows media player and such), it
gets put out to the synth, so i think the send/recieve is
okay.. the problem is getting reason to recognise input...

we are talking about you using an external midi keyboard,
controlling software on your computer right?

Drunken: Hmmm. Im stumped. If you figure it out, let me
know, cause now Im curious! Good luck!

no no i mean my soundcard WON'T play midis - as in i just
get silence whenever i try to play them.....

but the rest of my sound works fine. i probably just need to
install that software.

check the control panel... enter the multimedia-settings and
select a playback-device that isn't your current one, nor
"MPU-401".

btw, zeus: do you know how i can change the sync settings on
the xp30? ..or if that's even possible? it says nothing
about it in the manual...

Do you really need to actually sync the XP-30 to Reason? I
mean if you only sequence the XP from reason, all you need
is to pick a channel (that is the same on both ends) and the
XP should respond to notes coming from the computer.

You only need sync if you are using BPM synced LFOs on the
XP-30 or anything else that needs to be tight with the
timecode coming from reason. Otherwise, just figure out the
sending/receiving stuff.

but when i connect the synth, reason won't even start
playing. i can use reason only if the synth isn't connected
or if it is turned off..

Maybe the Reason sequencer is set to external clock? Does
the XP-30 have a sequencer? Check its clock settings too.

I sync my laptop to my Akai DPS12 HD-recorder and when the
Akai is set to slave, it will only play when it receives a
timecode from the laptop. Maybe it's something like that
going on here with Reason.
