Listening to "Motoki" by TRS-80 right now - damned good stuff. I heard they recorded it in a studio with an old BF Rich. I've noticed some good intelligent/contemporary music (and a tad bit of IDM) with guitars - i don't see it as a problem. I use guitars a bit in my tunes as well.
any input?

yes - guitars can be intelligent, you just need to know how to use them properly, like earvalve's guitarist.

yes.. i guess songs could be "intelligently" created by "intelligent" brains.. but even then, who's to say what sounds intelligent when it all comes down to personal taste?

The Microphones has guitar and is very very good. Especially the album Mt. Eerie.
A second to Cex, especially Being Ridden.
There is a lot of good guitar music.
