A good rock album...

The_Funkmaster from Newfoundland, Canada on 2001-11-17 18:14 [#00053037]

I know this site is primarily for electronic music and the
like, but a really good ROCK album is Elemental by Tears for
Fears... I know what you're saying "Tears for Fears?" but
yes... it's nothing like the 80's pop Tears for Fears...
plus, it's really a solo album, as the group broke up, but
one guy kept the name... anyways, if you don't like it,
that's cool... but you should check it out... Goodnight Song
is absolutely gorgeous, and Break it Down Again is so funky
and cool... anyways, I like it, so you should check it out
sometime...

Also check out Crystal Planet by Joe Satriani if you want
some sweet guitar work... Love Thing is the most beautiful
guitar playing I think I've ever heard... anyways, check
these albums out if you want something other then
electronica... :)

Does anyone play guitar? I do!!!!

i do

I dig guitar, I'm learning Jimi Hendrix's Little Wing right
now.

The_Funkmaster from Newfoundland, Canada on 2001-11-17 18:57 [#00053046]

I like more melodic, technical guitar, rather then the mad,
super fast stuff... Hendrix is great, and Jimmy Page and all
them, but my favorite guitarist is Dave Gilmour... he is so
good... he doesn't play super fast, but the notes are always
played excellent, and they each matter... some of the solos
on Divison Bell are perfect... yes yes, it's not as good as
the floyds earlier Waters stuff, but some of the solos on it
are stunning!!!

I agree, Gilmour is my fave. Metalica, for example, play
SUUUUPER fast, but it comes away hollow. Davey-boy is god.

Pink Floyd went downhill as soon as I got kicked out.

You want a good rock album? Get the new Strokes album. Best
rock album this year, that's for sure.

The_Funkmaster from Newfoundland, Canada on 2001-11-17 19:12 [#00053055]

The Strokes? Heh, I like the song Last Nite, but it seems
like a lot of misplaced hype to me... Rolling Stone is
always looking for the new band to save rock and roll, and
it's funny how they always praise bands like the Strokes and
the like, who do the exact same music that was done ages
ago... Everyone compares them to The Velvet Underground, and
then they say they're the best... why not praise a guy like
Richard James for saving music... instead of looking for a
band to repeat what's already been done...

The_Funkmaster from Newfoundland, Canada on 2001-11-17 19:14 [#00053057]

not that I think they suck... I haven't even heard the
album... but it seems ridiculous that Rolling Stone does the
same thing with each new band, and really, there isn't
anything super fantastic about any of these bands in my
opinion...

The_Funkmaster from Newfoundland, Canada on 2001-11-17 19:15 [#00053058]

I wouldn't necessarily say Metallica's music is hollow...
it's just a different mood... songs like One, Nothing Else
Matters, and The Unforgiven say are absolutely beautiful...

Barrett, Syd from T dot. on 2001-11-17 19:19 [#00053060]

Cause Aphex never saved music, no one saved music. That's
the dumbest shit. I thought it was Radiohead who saved rock?

Fuck Rolling Stone, and fuck critics, The Strokes are a
wicked rock band. Beats the boring shit that comes out
nowadays for the most part.

funkmaster, our similar interests in music terrify me..when
i was younger, my first favorite band was tears for fears,
the first album i bought was elemental..though i'm not
really into them anymore, i remember the good old days when
i loved them

zetre on 2001-11-17 22:27 [#00053085]

The stuff I´ve heard from the Strokes is really nice, esp
"NYC Cops".

I´m not that into guitars but I really like smooth afropop
guitars (remeniscent to the guitars in "Ralome" by Plaid).
Bliss.

Metallica has some awesome solos and shit, but SO many of
them just sound so redundant. Just there for the sake of a
solo, and to show off how fast Hammett can play.
I like Metallica, but the solos don't impress me anymore.

Stop this, the twin is the only
rock/pop/dance/house/techno/acid/dnb/electro/jazz/funk/blues
what ever you wanta call it,

The_Funkmaster from Newfoundland, Canada on 2001-11-18 05:26 [#00053143]

Yeah, Tears for Fears aren't my favorite band... but I like
the album Elemental... also, Woman in Chains is a great
song!!! :)

I enjoy the strokes album a lot

Led Zeppelin - II or Oasis - (What's The Story) Morning
Glory?

The_Funkmaster from Newfoundland, Canada on 2001-11-18 18:30 [#00053226]

I love Led Zepplin... I have their 4 disc boxed set... blah,
I hate Oasis... one of the most annoying bands ever...

I love disc three from the boxed set... (if you own it
you'll know what's on it)... In my time of dying is a great
song!!!

Quoth from Lincoln on 2001-11-18 18:40 [#00053227]

I believe disc III is the "Physical Graffiti" stuff... very
great band. My favorite .... so technically this thread
shouldn't be called "a GOOD rock album" but rather "an
EXCELLENT rock album"

The_Funkmaster from Newfoundland, Canada on 2001-11-18 19:00 [#00053233]

yeah, I don't own any of their real albums, but I do think
it's a lot of Physical Graffeti stuff on disc III... disc II
is good as well...

I hate the song Kashmir, but other then that Disc 3 is
awesome...

Ophecks from Nova Scotia on 2001-11-18 19:33 [#00053240]

I love Zep, kind of. Sometimes I hate them. Robert Plant is
the worst vocalist ever, and almost ruins it for me.

The_Funkmaster from Newfoundland, Canada on 2001-11-18 19:49 [#00053243]

well, sometimes I love Plants singing, while sometimes I
hate it... he's got a great bluesy, rock, voice... sometimes
it does get annoying though...
