Actually I heard it on a shitty videoclip on some German
site, but here..
http://www.clavia.se/G2/G2Guitar.mp3

Pretty nice for an analog modelling synth. Can't wait until
November, it better not be delayed again.

Is that supposed to be a 'real' picture?

That is the genuine picture :D
For some reason most of their new stuff is that colour.

It looks like a priest blessing a cartoon synth.

Haha it probably could do those sounds.

"Paco's gonna be jammin on that thing:"
-Yeah I will, unless the Monomachine from Elektron is
better.
The Monomachine sounds I found through google:

"keep this link to yourself" bwahahaha

I'm on the Monomachine beta. It's phenomenal, even in it's
beta form. If you want some samples off it, I can whip up
something fun.

The Monomachines are being made a 5 minute bus ride from my
place. I highly doubt that you're in any kind of beta, as it
is a hardware instrument. It's already available, but
limited to the earlier registered customers, for the first
100 units. Hope this clears any further illusions up.

Doubting thomas, look closely now.

Apologies for the blur, I'm a bit stoned.

Here's a big pic

get it? Can you post something you've made with it?

Tomorrow, I'll see if I can get the vocal synth to say
xltronic, and put a little sound demo afterwards.

Never judge kit on it's looks as a first measure. Wait
until they're around and mess with one first.

Yes Master..

I'm young, impulsive and incredibly brave... I just checked
their site, so, it's the sid station with 5 other types on
synthesis?

offline nomad from Squim (United States) on 2003-10-11 04:36 [#00898016]
Points: 50 Status: Lurker

Well, it's a SID emulation... it's mebbe half what the real
sid is like. Sounds a lot like QuadraSID.

It's got a vocal synth (really fun), three implementations
of FM synthesis, a nice pulse/saw basic VA synth, a bunch of
pcm sampled wave forms and percussion bits, and the SID
emulation.

The synths all sound very good, characterful but not
unmanagably so. The sequencer is frickin' unbelievable.
That's the ace in the sleeve of the monomachine.

clock is good and solid too...

MMmmmm, I've got things that do all that but it would be
fun just messing around with it in one box, in the FM
bit, how many operators do you have?

My sincere apologies, nomad :) This is the Internet after
all.

The Monomachine does look very sexy. AGAIN, if you want to
hear it:

Here it is. Unfortunately, I had nothing but this crap ass
minijack to dual rca with rca to quarter adaptors on it
handy, so there's some noise off the thing. I'm not in my
studio right now...

monomachine does xltronic

Stoned bad electro. LOL.

Heheh that sounds great! Very Kraftwerkish and not so much
text-to-speech. Also, nice of Elektron to throw in SID
emulation now that the numbers are so low and the prices are
so high.

I'm still undecided on the G2 and Monomachine. Atleast I
dropped the Machinedrum from the race, I figured the MD
sample CD and a K2000R with my existing samples can handle
the beats.

Yeah, it's great kit. The vocal synth is cool, but it's
hard to get serious variation in timbre. I've done some
work to massage more harmonic vocals from it by layering
cleverly sequenced synth lines beneath the phrases, but it's
still clearly what it sounds like in that example.

I'm pretty confident it'll become a tired sound in a year or
two.

The G2 will be insane. I'm on the fence about buying one
because I almost see it as a rabbit hole. I could end up
spending more time fidgeting than composing with a toy like
that, which is dangerous.

Spending more time on fidgeting than composing about sums it
up for me and my two old nord modulars.

I wish I had some sort of permanent recording wired to it.
There's so much good stuff lost because you either can't
reproduce it or you forget what you did.

The strongpoints as I see them for the Monomachine is the
larger keyboard. Different sound from yet another Clavia
product and as you said, the Elektron sequecers are good,
raised some reviewer's heads already on the Machinedrum.

As for the G2 being a rabbit hole, it can be, but this time
they said it's going to be much more performance orientated.
I suppose they mean that it will be more like the Nordleads.
More editing possibilities directly from the knobs.

I've got a micro modular right now, and I use it for all
sorts of things. I love it's size. It's really easy to
haul around and plug in between any coupla things. Great
sound processor...

I have the micro too, it was the first NM I bought. Then I
found the rack version in a pawn shop. There are some nice
patches for external processing, like the 3- and 4-band
compressors. I have a patch where someone even made a
vocoder from different modules. It's not as well defined as
the vocoder module, but it shows that it's a pretty complex
synth.

Nomad, do you know when Elektron will update the MM site?
I've been waiting forever for more soundclips. Hope it's not
the Friend section clips.

Haha! "We are programmed just to do / anything you want us
to / we are the robots / we are the robots." The
kraftwerkian vox emulations are too impressive for words.

I just joined the Elektron Yahoo group a couple of hours
ago. Seems there are still some major issues with the MM to
be finalized. The thought of having a six voice/part SID is
pretty mouth water!
