Acrid Avid Jam Shred

Andrew on 2001-11-16 01:36 [#00052557]

This song (the first track from "I Care...") has to be one
of AFX's best works. It's just such a laid back but totally
in control track - I love all the ultra-lush synths.

Nutto.

This awesome track hardly gets a mention on peoples
lists, but is up there with the best of 'em.Everybody, let's
hear it for Acrid!

it's one of my favorites... one thing I find with drukqs is
that, although the synth lines, and melodies and stuff in
the songs are nice, the actual sound of the synth doesn't
sound as lush I guess you could say, as the tracks on I Care
Because You Do... that's one thing I love about ICBYD... the
sounds seem to wrap around you almost...

although, I'm sure in time Drukqs will have a similar effect
on me...

I agree with both of you. My favourite AFX songs aren't
usually mentioned, like Corn Mouth and Metapharistic... and
this one we're talking about. I also love the second track
on the album.

The_Funkmaster from Newfoundland, Canada on 2001-11-16 02:08 [#00052571]

See, I love Corn Mouth as well... it's such an intense
listen... it's just way too short...

Griswald on 2001-11-16 02:11 [#00052572]

Drukqs is shit! It'll never sound as good as his old tracks
no matter how many times you make yourself listen to it.
Hopefully the new MEN releases will be more like it.

Ophecks from Nova Scotia on 2001-11-16 02:17 [#00052577]

One of my favorites, and it gets no mention ever, is Wax the
Nip. It's the shit. That, and the Waxen Pith.
I agree, the synths on Drukqs aren't as sweet as ICBYD.

i love both albumns and dont see any reason at all to
compare them. They are individual in their own right.

Acrid Avid Jam Shred is by far the best afx track released.
Not a wasted moment from start to finish - the the high
melody line that come in towards the end is outstanding.
Played this out in a basement venue a couple of years ago
through a pretty loud PA and it sounded awesome.

Krendo from Leicester University on 2001-11-16 11:38 [#00052701]

How anyone can say Wax the Nip is a good song is beyond me.
It's certainly the worst song on ...I Care Because You Do,
and probably one of the worst songs he has done anytime.

Griswald, it is sad to see quite how wrong one person can
be. Drukqs is clearly a great album. Don't you even like 54
Cymru Beats? And, by the way, if you're expecting great
things from the MEN release, think again. The first track is
a fairly decent acid tune, circa say 1990. The second tune
wouldn't be out of place on Drukqs. The third, final track
is just some crappy computer noise, and is clearly intended
to be some kind of nerdy joke. But I only have the recent '2
remixes by AFX'. What else has he, or will he, release on
MEN?

doki from grmny on 2001-11-16 12:59 [#00052733]

nobody can tell - we´ll see ;-A

Griswald on 2001-11-16 13:00 [#00052734]

Yeah, 54 Cymru beats is great! there are a few others too
but as an album it sucks. It's just too long, the running
order is to schizo, ICBYD was schizo but it works. I'm not
saying the music is shit just as an album, double CD?
That's a bit prog rock for me. I'm sure he could have said
what he wanted to say in half the time, then for me it would
be a lot more solid.

The AFX remixes were retro but still sounded fresh, a great
energy about them, I don't really care that I'd heard some
of the sounds before, it's the form that is rocking for me.
I read that him and tom jenkins will be releasing more
tracks on their new label which MEN is the catalog thing, I
hope it just doesn't go all prog new age with quadruple
concept albums.

doki from grmny on 2001-11-16 13:02 [#00052735]

why not? i´d like that ...
and you´re right, i also hate the discussion about retro
and totally innovative - as long as my balls start to rock
off, i don´t care ... (and they won´t stop to rock off to
afx ;-A)

ACRID AVID JAMSHRED.

MY ALLTIME FAVOURITE TOO !
THE ONe TRACK THAT completely takes over and by the end has
you feeling more complete, more 'In the zone"

that and 'Heliosphan'.

The_Funkmaster from Newfoundland, Canada on 2001-11-16 15:27 [#00052776]

I love the song Start As You Mean to Go On from ICBYD...
noone ever mentions that one... I find that the drumming
totally numbs your ears, and then when the second synth line
comes in, with that full sound, well it's totally amazing to
me... I was always fasinated by that track, since the first
time I listened to it... it hurt my ears at first, but now I
find it soothing kind of...

Ophecks from Nova Scotia on 2001-11-16 16:18 [#00052792]

I love that one too, Funky. It sounds so old school or
something, with the pitch changes and all. That album just
tastes good, a full course meal.
