hi guys
i got permission from the bar i work at, to put on a big
idm/electronica night on in December...

thinking about themeing it more as an industrial/idm
night... has anyone here had any experience with putting on
nights and stuff? any advice would be appreciated...

oh, and i need a name for the night... can anyone come up
with anything? hehe

make real (as in paper) flyers to hand out @ other shows.

sounds rediculously obvious, but people tend to skip the
advertising part sometimes.

...hehe ive also been emailing rephlex and warp, trying to
book rdj for when he's here in australia (january) hehehe...
capacity is only 150, so it would be such an awesome
intimate gig...

...i wonder if i have any chance in hell of actually getting
rdj...

well, the most important thing is you get rdj to
play...everything else is the easy part

Is the PA/lighting rig already in situ? Will you need any
additional lighting/smoke/bubble machines? Do you know
exactly when they want it to start and finish? How early
will they let you start setting up for it? Have they given
you a budget to find acts/djs?

If you want to book Richard via rephlex, it needs to be as
part of a "substantial" rephlex artist showcase. Get Cyblob,
Bogdan, Leila and Ouvaca as well and you might be in with a
chance ;)

the sound and lighting is already there, its my workplace so
i can pretty much start and finish whenever i see fit... if
a local act plays, they will get $50... in the event that
the bar makes over $2500 then all acts share a further 10%
of the bars takings.

in the event that i get rdj, we would sell tickets to the
gig, and pay him according to what he charged ( i have the
owners blessing to snag rdj, but within a sensible budget )

any idea what would "you make an offer as we wont" stand
for?
200 bucks? 300?

300 uk pounds is probably as much as i could offer rdj for
the gig.

you'd have to catch him in an excellent move fot that money
:) :(

here's what i read about richard devine this morning - he
usually gets about 1.200 USD for a gig (which is less then
i'd eaxpect)

I don't know exact figures, but I have a feeling it'd be
over 10 times that... A lot more again for the showcase I
mentioned. I mean, £2000 would hardly cover the flights of
the other artists out there with their equipment, let alone
accomodation etc. Offer to let them sleep in the bar on the
floor and a free bar. Agree to give them free bar food too
:)

Other advice: Don't make the mistake of giving free/reduced
price tickets to mates- on a venue that size 10 free tickets
could very well be the difference between profit and loss.
Also, if it's not going to be a regular (once a month) thing
it wouldn't have any long term benefits to compensate for it
(aside from your mates would be chuffed!) Are you just
booking one act? Might be worth getting one local amateur
(that you know is half decent) to play for free as a warm up
act. You could DJ yourself right at the start and between
acts.

well ok..

300 Uk pounds = 1100 AUD
1200 USD = 1500 AUD

so thats only another 400... i'd have to get that sum
approved by my boss...

i could sell tickets at 30 a piece... easy.. and id sell all
150 no doubt... thats 4500... fuck, ok, i can afford
richard.

im not doing the showcase man, the reason im after rdj is
because he is playing the big day out festival, about half
an hour down the road... im trying to snag him for a solo
gig.

i wouldnt do it otherwise.. he's in the area yknow :)

hmm yes, but devine is probably "cheaper" than rdj?
but since he's coming in australia in january perhaps he
could stay there longer and have some vacation...but then
again december is pretty busy especially for musicians...

i was thinking about this some time ago and i came up to at
least 20.000 EUR and it would have to be a big place to be
able to cover for that just from ticket sales

but when they get on tour , perhaps that price comes down to
a more reasonable one...

i wouldnt have to do anything other than pay him for the
gig, maybe if he wanted a limo or something i'd have to get
that... he's going round the country being pampered by the
big day out boys, so there is nothing he requires

Yeah, if he was already in the area I can imagine it might.
I suppose if you booked him through warp you could get him
on his own without the others...

Richard, if you're reading this, be a nice chap and do it
for $50. If you do I'll even buy Smojphace ;)

Teapot- yeah definately try to get vibert, that'd be
excellent! BTW I was just about to mention, take your laptop
with you incase the main act doens't show and you can step
in. I'm sure 1/2 the punters wouldn't notice unless it was
RDJ you'd booked!
