Will it burn out my harddrive if I leave my computer
connected to soulseek all the time for people to download
from me? I usually have like 5 people uploading from me at
a time.

I don't think it will wreck your HD, but I don't like
leaving my computer on for too long.

If I'm not using it, it goes off, I'd just rather it not
suck in more dust and get even hotter, it's not even that
loud, I just like to save electricty too.

was right around the corner from the laundry room. computer

its actually best to leave your computer on...

the more you turn it on and off, the quicker it kills the
HD

I dont know the exact reason... but I do know that itll make
its life much shorter.

it's the heating up and cooling down of the components when
you turn your computer on and off a lot, it wears them out.

i don't mind that people are downloading as long as it's not
bad for my harddrive to be in pretty much constant use

I've heard that as well, however, I don't cylce my computer
very much, but I do leave it off when I'm done.

It also uses more electricity to turn it on and off
constantly too, but I try to just use, turn off,, blah, why
am I explaining this.

It used to be that turning your computer on and off would
fry the circuits eventually, because they weren't
manufactured as well and the sudden surge when you turn on
and off your computer hurt the circuits

Nowadays, just throw a screensaver on and it'll be fine

The hard drive won't die any faster, it's the most likely
part to die in the computer anyways, so keep your stuff
backed up

Screensavers are the Spawn of Satan. It's ok to leave your
PC on, just turn off the monitor, if don't use it.
Screensavers just fuck everything up.

yeah, i have it set to 'turn monitor off' after 3 minutes.
it's a laptop, i don't want the backlight to go dead

I'm one of the few people that don't use slsk...

1) I don't know what it is, and
2) I don't know how to get it.

So my PC is fine turned off after I use it. I think.

I hope.

I beg.

I pray.

I wish.

we're not talking car brakes here that will heat up or break
if you just leave them on, theyre designed to stay
on......the coputer parts that is, and the backlight isn't
the first thing to go, if you leave you lappy lcd on 24/7
you're gonna hit that 10,000 hour life pretty soon and
pixels will start dyin, but i have lappies 5 years old that
are on regularly and only are missin 6 or 7 pixels
