Hey, anyone know what the last song in the movie is? when
everyone's mourning Donnie's death.

Mad World was originally released by Tears for Fears in the
80s (Roland Orzabol is the lead guitarist).

There's a couple of different Mad World version for DOnnie
Darko...both of em by Gary Jules (who sounds soooo much like
Michael Stipe to these ears...)...

Wonderful song!!!!!!!!!.....TfT original was ok, but these
versions are hugely better & more poignant....

actually there are three "remixes" of mad world on the
donnie darko soundtrack, but theyre really stupid. i mean
its a good son, but all the remixes are is the exact same
song with a drum beat played over it. yawn... lets get an
afx remix up in here!

agree, but my favorite rock band did a song about the movie,
it's good, cuz the band is good, called "Frank: He Made Me"

The Emty

(d/l in the "media" section)

more poignant than the original? come off it.

roland orzabal wrote that song as a teenager inspired by
arthur janov and all his childhood traumas and adolescent
worries. in fact the wohle of the hurting album released
when he and curt smith were both 21 was all about the primal
scream therapy. great music, great lyrics, uttterly
brilliant.

album got to no. 1, mad world got to no. 3 and propelled
them into deserved stardom.

the video is a bit weird though.

roland has recently said that he liked the gary jules
version very much and i can't help but agree. i think its an
excellent interpretation and fits in with the film
perfectly.

probably my favourite tff cover version (not that there are
many), although disturbed have done a version of shout which
is pretty good aswell.
