I like em, especially those 6 little big-bellied cartoon
guys, very cool. I'm not usually a fan of tight realist
drawings but these are pretty cool, they look quite intense.
Keep up the good work man, it cheers me to see creative
people :-)

same crits from me as last time. are you working from photo
references? i'm guessing you are. it might help to ditch
that and start learning how to construct a figure from the
skeleton up, because it doesn't quite seem like you've got
your anatomy down, especially if these are off photos.
also, if they are from photos, the lighting can be really
off because a portrait photograph, especially professional
ones, tend to have very high contrast, unrealistic lighting
set up.
loosen up your lines a bit and focus more on anatomy, plus
the drawings are too dark, as i think i said in your last
topic.
keep drawing!

the spooky portrait one is kind of cool, if it were finished
and her hair didn't look like a solid mat. i guess you're
going for realism, but some of it is actually less realistic
because of how contrasty the drawings look.

if you really want to get grilled, post your work in this
forum:

www.artbq.com/forum/

the posters there are almost all pros, working in either
illustration or comic books. it isn't like alot of places
where they either say "hey great!" or "pretty good, keep it
up". most of those types of sites are filled with people who
draw as a hobby but don't actually know what the hell
they're talking about. kind of like ninety percent of the
people on deviantart....
anyways, if you want more feedback here, i'll certainly give
it to you. i'm currently an art major, digital arts,
although i'm thinking about changing that to illustration.

check out these links for inspiration/tutorials, what have
you. and sorry, i don't know html, so you'll have to copy
paste.

www.conceptart.org - definitely the best forum around
www.beeba.net - this guy draws like crazy and has
mad figure drawing skills
www.goodbrush.com
www.amanosworld.com

plus try to get your hands on the andrew loomis figure
drawing books, which are the best available.

Zaphod, i would have sent you a mail, because i felt i had
so much to say!

Well first of all, i have begun redrawing one of the
pictures, without the errors you mentioned. I don't know why
i dont see it myself, but thats just the way it sometimes.
Your comments make me feel like "what?!" in the begining,
and then after some time, i see that you're right. So THANK
YOU YET AGAIN!!!

And that link, i have a feeling ill use that site from now
on, to haul in critique! Wery useful. =)

And last, i do use photo references, its simply what my
budget can handle right now. I only have one girl that
voluntered to pose nude for me, for free! And i want to be
good, before i use her. But i have recently begun drawing
myself, and some kids at my job, and i can see what the fuzz
is about. Copying photos is difficult enough, but kind of a
monkey job, whereas the real study of the human body is much
more complex, and generates more interesting results. I have
also begun with some cross hatching and water colours and
stuff. Anyway, i just wanted to say, thanks for the
enligtening critique, it really helps me! Dont be surprised
if i use you again.

if you want, i know of places to get figure drawing books
for free.
i know hiring a model is super expensive, which is why i
just draw stuff without any reference at all, or with a
model in figure drawing classes.
you should really begin drawing with no references, it helps
you to build up skill, and in the real world, there aren't
usually models there for you to draw from, its just a guy
going "hey, draw such and such in this style, have it by
this date", and then thats it.
are you planning on doing illustration, comics, what exactly
are you into?
i'm beginning to write and illustrate comics in my spare
time, which is quite a test of drawing skill and
compositional ability.

Please tell me about those places!! (i like things that are
free)

I think ill probably do either illustration or animation. I
really don't know yet. But i have a friend who's a full
blown animator who gave me some tips (Betty Edwards for
example.. i'd never heard of her!!). He explained the pros
and cons for it, and i think i might be interested. I might
even be interested in computer games (graphics, animation).
I also considered teaching part time and doing your own
shit. I dont know yet, i just want to be good, get into a
some kind of school that will suit my needs. Learning the
classical style is just a good basic before i move on to
something else, i'd think.

I did a self portrait with some cross hatching here:

http://www.tegnebordet.dk/default.asp?vis=profil&id=4075

I really like this myself, i think its much more vivid and
interesting than the other stuff!
