need free sample pack (instruments)

I've tried searching google, hotbot and
sharewaremusicmachine.com and it's difficult to find such a
simple thing.

I just want some free musical instrument sounds. They can be
real, cartoony, or anything but they must be instruments not
percussion. And it would help very much if they were all in
the same key.

I have a (yamaha?) keyboard with lots of fun sound types
(piano's, violins, harps etc and they all sound cheapishly
synthesized or something which I like, sorta videogamey
sounding) I was going to record each sound into a microphone
but my microphone does not work now. That would have been
easy because I could have made sure I used to same key for
each sound.

try to search word - reason refill's-
there is a lot of sites with sample packs to reason and
loads of them are in wav. format , so after DL you can
easily change them in other formats

Here are a couple soundfont files. They load very
easily into Modplug. I used to have a link to a site with a
large amount of soundfonts on it, but it seems to have left.

Just a search on google and a bit of crap filtering should
give you tons of stuff.
Or just sample your own stuff of records. Ive got over 4Gb
of samples for my sampler, all organised, most loops have
loop points set and all topped n tailed with programs too
(programs are like multi keygroups arrangements for akai
samplers) yeah so anyway I built this up from scratch over a
couple of years, so I reckon with a bit of freetime make
your own. Its easier and more rewarding.

www.findsounds.com
just type in the name of the sound you want.
And if you get a hang of Soundfonts (like -V- suggested, as
frankly I dont have a modplug and dont have a clue how it
would work) here is good page from where to find them.

GUS patches

pretty nice sounding, used to use them with Timidity. I'm
sure there's a way to convert them into wav audio.

So far I've only had time to try the first 2 suggestions
(which took about 6 hours on dial up...) I downloaded a
"soundfont", then realized that they are all in a weird file
format I didn't understand. I'll have to figure out how to
either convert it to wav or how to make it work in modplug.
The "reason refill" search turned up a lot of stuff in
another weird file type but also a few things in wav. The
thing I ended up getting (which took forever to download)
sounded cool but would be difficult to use in melody because
many of the sounds use more than one key.

I'll try the other suggestions later today and see if the
phone company does not harass me for being on dial up 12
hours a day using their "lifeline" service...

To load the soundfont into Modplug, once you get the
soundfont .sf2 file, go to File/Load Soundbank, select the
.sf2 file and open it. It should create another instrument
folder (like the Midi Library or GM.DLS folder) with all the
new sounds in it. To use them, just drag the instrument you
want over to a new instrument in the song.

i have an african thumb drum and a magnus chord organ, i
could give you some interesting samples from those... do you
need FULL melody sets or just a few hits of C? if you have a
tool that shifts the pitch, all you need is one sound and
you can go from there.

ok this is actually quite easy.
i will tell you exactly what i do.
first download Vienna.
it is a program that uses sondfonts. it is a midi keyboard
with some effects. it uses the .sf2 file. and each sound
font is a collection of instruments and the sort.
it is a very easy program to use and fingure out.
you can down load it here:
http://www.americas.creative.com/support/files/download3.as
p?centric=108&descID=423&maincat=11&OS=2%2C3&subcat=16
now go get some soundfonts.
just search for Free Sound Fonts in any search engine and
you will find thousands of free downloads.
if your sound card is able, set your recording setting to
"what you hear".
use what program you use to record your music and open up
vienna and then a sound font and press the keys. they will
be recorded in what ever you use if it has that funtion.

Whoa, "soundfonts" are awesome. This is exactly what I
wanted (only it's just making me realize that I do indeed
suck at melody, but oh well... )

I don't know where the hell imaginary fantasy @mp3.com pulls
his melodies out of.
