Anyone know anything about Proppellerhead Reason? I need
some sequencing software for my Mac, innit.

if you want to sequence external gear, or other software,
reason wont let you.

it only sequences the instruments inside of reason

no pluggins either

Reason is really awesome imo, you can do loads in it.

But it's up to you i would highly recommend it but that's
because i love it.

What's Nuendo ? (well, a music making program, I guess)

Oh, and I know the deadline has passed, but do you want my
lame techno remix of the Smiths' "Reel around the fountain'
? If so, I can share it on SoulSeek.

it's also Steinberg, it's like an über-Cubase - it
incorporates everything SX does and has more.

although I've only just started using it, so I can't say
that much about it really.

yes, do let me hear your remix of the Smiths.

shit, I still have to do Dolleater's piktjor.

Cubase Sx is good though there are a lot of superfluous
visual elements. i`m more a Cubase 5.0 man meself. You stick
to what you know ya know. As far as I make it, it is just a
tool to get my ideas. It could be a banana and as long as it
records I would use it. Or some other fucking twatwank...etc

Speaking of Cubase, all of a sudden I can't load FL Studio
as a plugin in SX. It tells me the engine could not be
linked, perhaps there is already an instance running - hmm,
there - behind you? Or something like that.

Cubase sx, a couple of virtual synthz (Reaktor, Plasticz,
Scorpion, PPG Wave, Pro-53, FM7, Battery... Choose yer

Secondary Rewire Slave. A way to Happiness? No, My usual
Live act setup. :)

I use Digital Orchestrator Plus. Great MIDI sequencer. So
easy and lacking in features, I actually get things to work
with it. There's not much else to do, but add notes, edit
some CCs and hey..another track done.

Zeus...and Skink... so with Reason would I be able to record
sounds and use them in tracks? Or is there no importing at
all? How are the instruments they give you?

If you have wav editor makes some samples in it then save
them in a directory then when you have track you want a
sample in create an nn-xt or a nn-19 then import a sample
from that directory then you can set it to a root key and
alsorts of fucky stuff with it.

I hope that helps.

you could use your own recorded sounds... but you cant
actually record with reason.

Like, if you had same wav or aif files, you could load them
into reasons samplers...

but you couldnt like, plug a mic into your computer, and
record the sounds you make. Know what I mean?

The stuff that comes with it is decent. Good for a
begginner, and even non begginers...

They arnt amazing, compared to other programs... but its all
in one, and easy to use, which gives it the upper hand.

I say... if you are new to music making... its the way to
go.

IMO

I'm a firm believer of the fact that it's not what you use
it's how you use it.
But sstill i wouldn't mind some other juicy stuff.

But reason is awesome but that's just my opinion.

I agree with Zeus 100%

It is an excellent program, but given the alternatives
available which offer so much more flexibility and diversity
it begins to fall down.

so how easy are these programs to steal?
(like if a person were to try to steal them. not me of
course)

1. Acid 4.0 - easy to steal.. so i've heard ;)

2. Reason - i've this guy i know has had much
difficulty stealing it due to those damn sample c.d.'s

3. Cubase - easy? difficult?

4. Logic - easy? difficult?

I this guy i know would purchase these if they
weren't 500+ dollars. (acid 4.0 is pretty cheap though..)

there are cracked versions of Cubase around - and they're
real good cracks too.

but they're not easy to find..

Ok i'm willing to accept there is better, i love reason and
i have done really great stuff in there which sounds just as
good as anything done cubase and stuff.

My question for you is what would you recommend as a
stepping stone out of that?

I'm really very well versed in what reason is capable of, do
you think i should get anything else?

if you are looking for Cubase Sx get the Oxygen version
which is about 69 MB. Thats the only ne that works.

Oh and Reason is great. I use it a lot but i`m not saying
how. Gotta keep yer tricsk up your sleeve :D

None of the SX versions work properly. You can't do any
slice moving or editing when working with RX2 files.

Have you tried moving shit and editing the RX2 files? I got
XML errors on early cracks...I could move the slices on
later cracks but I couldn'tdo any editing like reversing the
slice etc.

well, maybe i'll just stick with acid 4.0

it's a little cumbersom and sometimes it can be down-right
retarded, but it hasn't let me down yet, in the long run.
the nice thing about it is i've been using it for about 3
years and i literally can use it in my sleep.
dream-sequencing i call it. unfortunately, there is no way
to export dreamed tracks.
