when i had win98 and i clicked 'shut the computerr down' it
shut down and i could walk away.
with winXP i have to 'turrn off computerr' and then it says
'it is now safe to turrn yourr computerr off' and i have to
hold my 'on' button in until it clicks off.
can i change a setting orr something to alterr this, orr am
i doomed to waste 11 seconds of my life 4 times a day forr
the rrest of my life?

I get this weird feeling that I sign a pact with the devil
every time i install Windows XP on a computer...

personally I stick with Windows 2000 professional. Haven't
had a system running this stable EVER.

that's weird. I use XP and it always turns off my computer
quite nicely.

I use two PCs regularly: my home PC and my work PC. I've
formatted my home PC and installed XP twice and formatted my
work PC about 8 times and installed XP each time. And
sometimes when I install XP it turns itself off on shut down
and sometimes it requires I sit and hold the power button
for 5 seconds or so. It either random, or it's something to
do with the power options. Like "When I press the power
button on my computer..."

usually this is an AT vs ATX power supply issue.

check your device manager
under COMPUTER, make sure its ACPI

if not, open whatever it sais (prolly STANDARD COMPUTER) go
to Update Driver

select ACPI, etc

go
