Nokia's handheld system N-Gage is coming out next month (October 7). Most of the games don't look that great but Tony Hawk's looks fucking awesome that alone might make this worth purchasing. They need to get some good games going otherwise this system could die a real quick death though.

i played this at ECTS. absolute shit. all the games run at about 2fps and it looks really ugly, i think.
the screen is like twice as high as it is wide, which makes playing games really annoying because you can hardly see what's in front of you.

Looks pretty pointless... GBA makes more money than Gamecube, and with the Pocketstation on the way (basically a portable freakin' Dreamcast), what room is there for this thing?
Although I've seen the Tomb Raider video and it's fully 3-D, that's pretty impressive, better than they'll ever get on GBA. But not good enough.

yeh, and these n-gage guys were saying that the gba is immature/childish.
"Game Boy is for 10-year-olds," said Ilkka Raiskinen, head of Nokia's entertainment and media arm. "If you're 20 or 25 years old, it's probably not a good idea to draw a Game Boy out of your pocket on a Friday night in a public space."

I don't know Tony Hawk's and Tomb Raider do look shit hot. I agree the screen is too wide. Thats a serious mistake. Who knows perhaps its worth waiting for maybe they'll adjust the screen to satisfy demand and get some developers to do some good games for it.

noo - the screen isn't wide enough. it's too high :)
yeah i guess they might design games to suit it but i cant see many developers wanting to make games specifically for a screen ratio which is only suitable for a mobile phone.
i played this football game on it and it was ridiculously bad.

I play my GBA in public. I don't give a shit, its good entertainment and kills time. Granted there is a time and place to play video games but whats the point of a portable console if you don't play it outside of the home environment? I luv my GBA.

Yes, I hate that ''Nintendo is kiddy'' bullshit. What makes a game ''mature''? Prostitutes, swearing, blood? Fuck off. Image is the last thing you should worry about when you're playing a damn videogame. Mario 3 is a better game than, say, the Getaway could ever hope to be, even with all it's vaunted swear words.

I've got a Nokia 3650, the big one with a camera and circular keypad. People at work always ask me if it's not too big. I love the huge screen and it's only marginally bigger than my old 3310.
Now they were talking shit about the 7600, which looks weird and I'm like fuck why didn't I wait 6 months?! I love the way the 7600 looks.
You might think, "Who needs a camera?" Well, I have a Minolta E201, but this summer I took 800+ pics in 10 days with my phone. The Minolta has way better quality, but my phone is always out and ready.

Yep, I have no shame playing my GBA in public.
Ophecks, you're right re "Mature" games... I like GTA VC as much as the next man, but I certainly don't write off Super Monkey Ball because it looks like a kiddies games. It's one of the hardest games ever and that's coming from someone who has beaten Marble Madness with over 20 seconds on the clock. I don't think there are many kids with the patience to beat the game on expert mode, let alone unluck the extra levels.
As to the power of the GBA, sure it'll never be great for true 3d games, but that's a point in its favour in my book- I love the fact that there's a system they're developing old school platform games on.
Horsefactory: With any luck it'll force them to release some quality vertical scrolling games (Please God, let them do Ikaruga for it!)

Games have become too easy. Marble Madness on the ST was a real challenge. You had to be seriously skilled and calm to complete it. Most games these days are way to easy.
