The year is 1906... and the President was the Devine Miss
Sarah Burnheart.... and ALL around the country kids were
doing a dance called "The Funky Grandpa".... oh I'm a....
Zzzzzzzz.....

Seriously, tho... It was Aphex that got me involved.... I
must have been a softmore in highschool, I think... and was
a HUGE grunge fan (A.K.A. I was dirty)... one of my older
friends was into techno (Which I thought was a FAKE type of
music at the time, cause I thought it took no talent to
write....) Anywho... I heard come to daddy and I was
hooked.... I listened to that album night and day... and
started my foray into less convertional means of pleasing my
eardrums.... I got into Industrial artists such as
Neabauten, Skinny Puppy, Meat Beat Manifesto.... and of
course NIN... From NIN I started listening to Nothing
Records... which in turn turned me on to Autechre....
Squarepusher... and other greats :) Anyways, that's MY
story.... what's your's ?

i was sitting in my uncle's car and amber was in his
casette deck. "what's this?" "autechre." "what?" "autechre."
"oh." and then i went home and bought the album.

I was watching MTV Top 10 Banned videos. Come to Daddy was
on there. Being a heavy grunge fan back then i fell in love
with it.

Bought the EP, loved it, Windowlicker came out...clinched
it.

The rest i found out through curiousity

I liked the cover of SAW1 when it was first released... That
changed everything. Before that I like the Levellers and
Metallica.

aye, if it wa IDM, you'd have to be immediately turned off
by it, and through gradual listening you'd like it more and
more LOL.... Hookers are more of a turn on :P that should
have been your first clue :P

i made stupid music/song when i was 13, screamin into a mic
and bending my voice over cheesy dance beats

so a friend told me 'hey i know this guy who makes weird
music as well.. 'so he made me listen to the rdj album.

hooked.

It was hidden under the bed.

The boring version: Saw come to daddy and come on my
selector on television a couple of times, when i finally
discovered i loved the music, ordered it from local stores,
found this website, and all the other geeks reccomendations
that got me into bogdan and venetian snares and so on. =)

Hard to remember. I think it was around the time I started
listening to Ozrics and Eat Static and John Peel. Someone
introduced me to Sun Electric at school and things just went
from there. Sabres, The Orb, Orbital then Aphex. Heard a lot
really through John Peel. Heard The Black Dog and others
through Peely. I then went out and bought Spanners. Man I
was so chuffed to get hold of that tape and I played it non
stop. The excitement was just too much. Heard a lot through
Peely.

Someone who was a major Techno and Hardcore head then
introduced me to Polygon Window. At the time I didn't know
it was Aphex until he told me it was. The most exciting
moment was hearing Polygon Window. That will always be a
very cherished moment. I was so blown away by Polygon
Window.

saw come to daddy on mtv. had been looking for this kind of
stuff, though i thought it was some sort of new age punk.
went out to get the cd, came back with www.pitchshifter.com
instead. their single 'genius', which i loved, came out in
the same period.

i got the ep a while later anyway. a year later i bought rdj
album and then in the summer i bought icbyd, but that was
mainly to do with the fact that i had heard that the
smashing pumpkins were playing it before their concerts.

kid a made me look for what i called 'industrial ambient'
and i ended up with 'amber', which made me plunge into the
apparent depths of idm idiocy.

Heard music from Risotto album by Fluke in WipEout 64, fell
in love with their tracks, went to audiogalaxy (*sighs* the
days...) to download them and on the Fluke page on AG it
mentioned Aphex Twin as an artist other Fluke listeners
liked. Downloaded aphex twin stuff, didn't think much of it
at first, then got into it (Flim being the first aphex track
I liked). The rest is history.

with music reviews, discovered Warp artists, heard Boards of
Canada samples on the Warp site, was instantly hooked.

I heard lots of different stuff on Future Music cover CDs. A
remix of Silverside by AE called Silversub got me to buy
Amber and then Incunabula. I also bought Orbital's brown CD
and Kraftwerk's Radioactivity in the same week.

i got into electronic music when my uncle gave me
kraftwerk-radioactivity. i guess the first 'idm' music i
got was mouse on mars - iaora tahiti (also given to my by my
uncle), but at that time i didn't know what idm was. then i
decided to join the columbia house music club, so i just
searched on the internet for "electronic music" and out of a
huge list i randomly chose aphex twin. so then i ordered
come to daddy and selected ambient works vol 2 without even
knowing anything about them.

i heard 'windowlicker' and 'come on my selector' on
muchmusic. a few months later those titles sprung to mind,
get em off napster. found this site, looking for a discog.
took it from there :D

my aunt used to lend me those old compilation cd's with
Members of Mayday & shit on it. I always liked that stuff..
and later i got involved into hc/punk and the noise scene.
thanx to tape trading i got to know stuff like merzbow,
hermit,..
and tried to make some noise myself.heh

later an older friend of mine made some ambient/industrial
tapes with fsol,etc.. on it.
so i went to my local library and there was a copy of
Autechre's Chiastic Slide & AFX's Selected Ambient Works .

i downloaded/bought some more stuff from then on.

Read about Aphex Twin in a review of Radiohead's Kid A...
yes, I'm pretty new to this shit(e)... and I immediately
fired up good 'ol Napster and downloaded Windowlicker,
Kickass Violin Solo (lolzerz), Flim, Fantasia, and some
other stuff. I remember I downloaded all the tracks that got
high marks on some guy's AFX review site... can't find it
now. Fond memories, yeah.

I guess, first I heard Further Down the spiral, which
features Aphex on it, but I didn't know anything about it
then.

My friend then saw the 'windowlicker' video on MTV and was
talking about it at school the day after, but he didn't
remember who it was.

Then I guess I got into Coil and asked what other artists
had good 'ambient' on Audiogalaxy, and Aphex Twin came up
again.

it and listened to it non stop. It took me a while to get
into the actual IDM but after I bought Drukqs I was hooked.
