resist copy protection, its bad karma

c.smith from scotland on 2001-11-14 00:06 [#00051675]

i think that instead of not buying drukqs on cd i might just
buy it from a big record store and complain if it doesn't
work. and then when i get my refund i'll buy it on vinyl.

why dont you just take a look at the back of the case before
you buy it? if you cant play it on a computer, itll say "
this disc cannot be played on computers".
some do, some dont.
this aint nuclear fision.

i think he thinks that if enough people bother employees,
they will complain to management who will complain to record
companies who will stop this nonsense.
of course he's wrong but who cares.

my point is that if big record companies find that people
just buy these cds and dont complain then. they'll start to
make all cd's like this.
and my life will get dificult when i want to use my mp3
player to listen to new music, even when i have actualy
bought a copy. of forthat matter when these cd's fail to
work in my regular cd player (afterall many car cd players
and portables are based on portable cdrom technology).

currently these cd's are still in "testing" (on us unwilling
guinea pigs) and if enough people complain that these cd's
don't work properly (which they don't since they don't
adhere to the red book standard) then maybee if were lucky
then theyll stop making them.

record stores can only return a certain ammount of defective
cd's to the record companys before they actualy end up out
of pocket.

irritating members of staff will be just an amusing side
affect. :-]

initial reports are that they(copy protected drukqs) have
appeared only on the german market so far,
so why am i bothered,
well... a few big record compaies
(eg UMG which owns loads of other companies) have said that
they plan to introduce the over the next year.
their plan is that *ALL* new cds wil be like this.
