does your cd bear the legend "no playback on computer"?
record companies have been known to distribute a mixture of copy protected and non protected cds. IFAIK only the cd's with the legend are protected (mostly, there have been exceptions)
i'm not an expert on this but there are web sites that have more info
such as: http://www.newsforge.com/article.pl?sid=01/11/13/1350207&mo de=thread
http://news.cnet.com/news/0-1005-200-7852921.html
http://uk.eurorights.org/issues/cd/
especialy since you can't update the firmware on a component cd player if it happens not to work,
IIRC many car cd players are based on portable cdrom technology.
what pisses me off is companies messing with my ability to do simple legal things like listen to cd's on my comuter, mp3 player etc.

Im knackered if that becomes common seeing as all my Cd's are played thru my computer..
I have and amp and speakers, i could have got a Cd player but instead blew the money on a decent sound card.. made sense at the time, the one I had was cacky and i already had a good cd player in my machine.....

The ridiculous thing being that all it takes are a few copies to be ripped... then its available for download anyway... shit like this just annoys law abiding cd-buyers...
B'stards...
