anyone else rate the barbican gig?

tobes from uk on 2001-11-13 16:11 [#00051548]

im a fairly hardcore afx fan - got most of the albums n
singles... well, the not too obscure ones - (how i treasure
my copy of analogue bubblebath 4!) - and my 1st afx gig was
the barbican. i really enjoyed it, thought he put a real
good spin on the usual gig conventions, ie the earphones -
all at once we - (gf n myself) - felt closer n yet removed
from the music. i was looking 4 other peeps opinions here n
couldnt see anything... any comments?

yeah i was there man, best gig in years! 'skinning up is
permitted...' love it! it was really refreshing to have a
different venue and the earphones really made it special.
just wish it had gone on longer!

were people allowed to keep the headphones or the tape
inside the headphones ?

how do you know if everyone was listening to the same thing
?

no!!!!!!!!!!!!! you unfortunately had to give the earphones
back... very strict! afx was actually hiding up on a
balcony, you could only see him if u went looking for him...
and since the music would change suddenly - afx style -
from ambient to d'n'b, plus there were samples that made
everyone laff... u could tell we all heard the same thing.

but seriously, im amazed there hasnt been more about this
gig on this board. it was amazing!!!

i am flabbergasted that there has been such little ie non
discussion about this gig... it was soooooooooo cool

I read a review of the gig, I wish I could have gone. It
sounded like a great idea. I haven't seen him live yet, but
I'd like to do it in a small, intimate concert like that
rather than an out & out rave.

i read that it was good etc etc but it was quite a harsh
ending- something about kids being abused or something?

i'm also amazed not enough was said about the rave in
Hackney. I mean 2 hours of intense fucking jungle!! He just
kept handing Luke Vibert records and they went fucking nuts,
like!!!! + the mc'ing and the live vox-recording feedback
shit.....amazing

Read the barbican review.....sound well cool
