I totaly adore them! The greatest (non-electronica) band of the nineties, along with Saint Etienne.

'crest' might be one of the greatest rock songs ever...
can you name other bands that are similar to stereolab?

I wouldn't call them "non-electronica".
certainly not.

Indie/Post-Rock or whatever.
Broadcast and Seely are two bands I can think of that sort of sound like Stereolab.

Mary Hanson was the backup vocalist. I haven't heard if the new EP was cut before she died or after.

The switched on compilations are a great start, especially v2 and v3 (refried ectoplasm and aluminum tunes).
For regular albums, my favorite is 'dots and loops.'

Yes, it's quite good - one of their most 'rock' oriented albums.

"Dots and loops" is my favorite as well. And I also love "The band played space age bachelor pad music". There aren't really any bad Stereolab albums, but the one I care the least for is "Mars audiac quintet"...
