today, it just seems so easy to get (at least the most well-known) music... you go to soulseek or another p2p program, and just download... or you go to the internet store and just order (or even to a normal store)...
some releases are much harder to find, some cannot be found anymore or you need months (sometimes years) to get them... - but people who have access to soulseek (so, the majority of people with PCs and internet access) seem to be able to get even those easily! (with a few exceptions of course *all lights fucked on the hairy amp drooling for example* but not so many...) if you don't care about having the original object...
what do you think of it? should music be harder to get, or easier to get? is music being hard to find a good thing or not?

I know what you mean it takes the thrill out of it. And to be honest for the past 2 months I haven`t listened to music at all really. The availabilty makes it boring, though that availabilty is a luxury.
I long for the days past when vinyl was king. With a record you are buying an object, beautifully packaged, the thrill of the crackle and hiss as the stylus glides over the post-shellac grooves.
But alas we are lumped with small, bland, characterless plastic discs which jump and sound as soulful as a paper cup safety lecture.
ho hum. The advancement of mankind...

mmm my cds arrived
gotta love the artwork to bola's soup
gotta admit... its easy to come by
but its not boring me tho, i try to buy/download a lot of music and listen to a lot of different stuff so it keeps me entertained
today i listened to seefeel - polyfusia, muziq - in pine effect, lfo - sheath and nofx - so long and thanks for all the shoes
a lot of music isnt essentially a bad thing, atleast not for me.

When the amount of music available for almost everyone the real challenge is tracking down the quality... So I find being a music nerd today as thrilling as ever!

i think the lack of selection at music stores is horrible. there's bountiful fields of rap and pop but thats it. p2p wouldn't be necessary if this would change.

scup_bucket > yeah, often you can't find what you're looking for, but it's very understandable... you can't please everyone's tastes in music, especially in little towns...

What kills music for me is listening to mp3 tracks off a CD that you haven't already "properly" listened to, as in listen to the full CD with a good sound system.

what kills me is people who would rather burn a cd and never pay for it than order it online, which if you do it right is much cheaper than buying in stores

one of the shit things about p2p and mp3's is that people don't engadge as much with the people behid the music - the artist, the label etc - i'm cnstantly putting in touch with info/soundliles etc that are readily avaliable on label websites but people don't bother gowing to check cos they hang around here too much or don't expolore for themselves.
Record labels provide info, gig news - just an identitly and a communilty as well as info about the artist who makes the tracks. Thet's really important - music isn't just encoded data - people make it ans celebrate it - you can go and see people play and engage with events and art etc..
music shouldn't be hard to get - it should be avaliable to everyone - by going to mp3 sites you're killing the vital humanilty that comes thru these labels that give you the music a bit i think.
basically if some labels stopped releasing music you'd not really be able to download it in the first place!
