the music was played by the Kronos Quartet, but not created
by them.

Clint Mansell is the composer.

the Kronos Quartet has played loads of good music, though.

they're pretty adventurous.

Trainspotting was a better film than Requiem. Had it not
have been for Ellen Burstyn it would have just been a pile
of forgettable wank.

i like trainspotting a lot, and i like requiem a lot, i sold
back requiem after watching it about 10 times, the last 10
minutes are VERY disturbing.

haha...you know what...I am totally fuckin useless...I keep
on forgetting. What tapes do you want? I got fucking heaps
of tapes from of the radio and I got loads from warehouse
parties. When I dig them out, when I have the chance and
when I remember I will convert them all to mp3 and burn them
to CD's.

Hopefully I will get a chance in about 3 weeks time. But I
am opening another shop shortly so I am going to be very
busy and I can't be arsed doing the 50 mile trip to my
parents house :P

Kronos Quartet have also commissioned work from John Zorn
and Philip Glass. Allmusic.com has a piece and a discography
of their work. Funny I came across them recently while I was
looking for John Zorn releases.

If you want to check out more Clint Mansell you can find him
here and listen to him on the Nothing website

how did this movie become overrated?

offline ecnadniarb on 2003-09-19 23:58 [#00870870]

It's not particularly well shot. The acting was distinctly
average (with the exception of Marlon Waynes and of course
Ellen Burstyn) it had an annoying MTV feel to it with the
fast cuts and edits, it doesn't ever reflect true drug use,
it was more comic book interpretation. I own it on DVD, and
I am just not that impressed.

Same goes for Pi, an overrated film with a wafer thin,
contrived, plot. At least Pi was something a bit different
from the mainstream though.

points taken...

i guess what i enjoyed the most was the message it was
trying to get across so very harshly...

i mean, its a movie right? when did reality ever become a
variable?

If you enjoy it fair enough :D

All that bugs me about it is that people constantly hold it
up as an anti drugs film, which it isn't. I didn't even
feel it got the message across that well. Trainspotting did
more with humour than Requiem did with it's 'horrific'
ending. The babies death in Trainspotting, plus the general
feeling of the vicious circle nature of addiction, the dirt,
the lack of self worth, the just needing another fix came
across a million times better.

Requiem traded susbstance for gloss.

The best anti drugs film I have ever seen though was a short
documentry made by a young black director. I forget what it
was called now...but that was a genuine eye opener.
Especially the bit where he goes down into the basement of a
crack house and there are these old fellas shooting up H and
one of the collapses and dies on camera. Proper scary and
sad stuff.
