Mouse on mars

Ross from can. on 2001-04-20 00:54 [#00003992]

In my opinion, Mouse on mars are one of the bands im really
starting to think are in the front of good electronic
music..alongsides aphex, squarepusher, autechre..what do you
guys think?

Ramalpha84 from New Zealand (www.mp3.com/aureus) on 2001-04-20 04:10 [#00004012]

I've heard 2 songs, Future dub and Dark FX. Future Dub was
awesome, a bit repeatitive though. Dark FX was as cool as it
was weird, so it was very cool. Oh, I also heard some other
song that was short and beatless, abeautiful ambient track,
forgot what it was called.

I kinda forgot about em. Whats their best album?

Id Lab on 2001-04-20 04:42 [#00004013]

Yes, MOM are cool. I need their last two albums, I only have
Autoditacker and the Cache Coeur Naïf EP. Dark FX is on
Autoditacker, quite old; get the new album, Idiology.

5is6 from centeroftheultraworld on 2001-04-20 05:52 [#00004016]

I'd say MOM's best release is by far 'Iorah Tahiti'. Some
of the best stuff to come out of Germany next to Atom Heart
in my humble opinion. I could do without the progressive
rock though, but somebodys got to do it.

Glam is good too, Nuin Nuggining is best. .. and so is
vaginaland.

IS anyone following this thread after 7 years since the last
post?

I brought this thread back from the dead, and now I will
watch it sink back to the bottom like it was wearing cement
shoes.

have been missing something.

Are you still in Iceland! I read Grapevine the other week
and it had a lot to say about the xenophobic treatment of
Poles. I know it's written by teens but it was a good
article.

Yep, still here. I think I'm going to stay until September
or early October. After that, I will have the questionable
honour of closing down the company or suspending its
activity.

The only place I remember having noticed any prejudice
toward my humble person was Eimskip - the biggest sea freigh
carrier in which a certain lady named Adalheidur was quite
obnoxious and refused to communicate anything to me in
English despite being well skilled in it.

Actually, I found Icelanders to be a pretty forgiving bunch
when it comes to drunkards ruining idyllic evenings
downtown. Maybe the benefits of having a cheap labour
outweigh any hatred. Or maybe we simply aren't all that
different.

I like Grapevine and try to read it when I have the
opportunity. I don't remember that article though. Is there
any chance you remember which issue it was?

hmmm, how come they represent a direction of any kind? They
were as different as possible.

i'm saying on both of those albums the respective direction
taken were to places i didn't particularly care for. i'm not
saying they sounded similar or were related in any way other
than being mouse on mars albums. you're right. theyre night
and day compared to each other. i think they're the two
weakest MoM albums.

I think they still have to do a so-so album. Radical
Connector was close, but still not quite there.

God knows which issue it was! I'm glad Iceland hasn't been
too horrible though.

... Idiology was alright.

Not as good as Nuin Nigguing (or whatever it's called). I
loved that one so much I bought the UK and US versions and
each single.

i'm not too keen on any of the new stuff either, it's mostly
shit but there are a few gems here and there. glam is
probably my favourite. the ambience is perfect and the
bubbly beats are entertaining as fuck.

agreed on Glam. Their "Instrumentals" CD follows close to
similar lines, in their earlier style. Check it out.

they have got a good sound, very unique from what i remember

oh! i just remembered I saw them live on the Radical
Connector tour. Their music is much more fun and energetic
live than on record, even re-working some of the older stuff
into their newer glitchy style.

I believe a recording from that tour was used on the Live
'04 CD.

That show was also notable because I discovered two new
bands that I now love: Ratatat and Junior Boys!

their live setup looks excellent. from what i've seen they
look really engaged and they're loving it. i wish i could
hear the instrumentals and live cd unofortunately the pigs
put a limit on bandwidth and they charge an arm and a leg
for a fucking cd.

it was a fun show, and i'd see them again if they came my
way (even if i don't follow their music as closely anymore).
