does anyone have an idea as to when (tentatively) this is
to be released? and will most people have to buy a new
computer to play the intro

i'll download the demo when it's released, just to see how
it works on my pc...

supposedly you'll need a kick-ass videocard to really do
anything.

have no idea when it's going to be released - Valve just
released their new software platform Steam and it is kind of
crap at the moment.

big chance you'll have to use Steam to buy and download HL2
- which is pretty shitty for 56k users, besides the servers
having to pump down huge amounts of data..

that said, I have seen quite a few tasters in the form of
movies - it looks absolutely spectacular!! :)

supposedly it's still set to be released the 30th.

i really hope it runs on my laptop, cuz this game looks like
something i'll be obsessing over the next year or two.

should be good, but i think valve are working hand in hand
with a graphics cards maker (which'll be a top seller no
doubt, due to half life fans wanting to play the game)

yeah PHL still believe it'll be delayed but some articles
say otherwise.

either way, i'd rather have a smooth-running HL2 at a later
time than have the final release at the original expected
date with a buncha bugs & glitches.

I watched that huge 600MB demo of it, and it's nothing short
of spectacular... however... my CPU is nowhere near good
enough to run it well... I hope it comes out for Xbox.

Metal Gear Solid 3, Doom 3, Halo 2, Resident Evil 4... some
fucking HEAVY hitters coming up in the next year.

need for some much needed upgrades..

i played the doom 3 leak. i'm not sure how good hl2 will be
but i'm gonna have a hard time believing anything will top
doom 3.

The new Duke Nukem... I dunno man, it's probably NEVER
coming out. Looking at Gamespot and IGN, there hasn't been
any new info on it in... well, YEARS. No updates, no new
screenshots since 2001...

Half Life will be worth the wait.

5 years.

it took long because they sought to create the best damn
game engine to date, and it's nothing short of a big long
painstaking project.

That should definitely be good enough.

I just might buy a supermegaultra computer JUST for this
game. I need one anyway...

btw.: has anyone realised how the game creators are highing
up the requirements so that you HAVE to buy new hardware to
playe their game?

i mean doom 3 for example. the characters don't consist of
many poligons. the real effect is just real good bump
mapping, which doesn't need so much hardware at all. the
most resources are for the textures, but i think a good hdd
sould last.
