so if i were to invest in something like this...what would
you guys suggest? i just want something simple...nothing too
fancy. relatively easy to work with, cheap (the main issue
at hand), etc. i know that's probably asking for a lot,
but...i figured you guys could give me helpful input. and
it's easier than having to dig through all kinds of reviews
and blah blah blah.

so...any help?

oh oh. i guess..something basic for a "beginner" to learn
with, really. because i'm still new to all this.

the TR-606 is a fun toy. my brother owned one but it doesn't
work anymore, which sucks. still, i got the chance to play
with one, which i feel proud of.

i hear some good things about the Ensoniq EPS 16+ too.

actually those are kinda fancy, aren't they.

you may wanna try Vintage Synth.

the first drum machine i ever had was the korg er-1. for me
at the time that was amazing. analog sounds. its simple and
you can fuck around with a good amount of knobs. never had a
sampler though

ive got the korg es-1.. great little sampler. has
limitations but you can give it a good workout when you hook
it up to midi tools

ensoniq asr-10 is fat as but a nightmare to use

my first and only toy really is an mc303 drum machine
and i really enjoy using it , easy to pick up i think i
wouldrahter a 909 as the 303 only has 50 user patterns
and thats it, if you bulk dump patterns etc back on it
wipes them all, 909 has a memeory card tho. it does
have some midi dramas but it does its job for me.

yeah that red metal box will be awesome but expext 500 eoros
at least. new mpc 1000 maybe even more...but it will more
potable with some very good optins (up to 128 mb ram, memory
card up to 2gb, internal effects....)

I don't see what's the benefit of having a couple of 12ax7s
in those things - to get real tubey warmth you have to have
the tubes in the power amp not the preamp, and you have to
drive them hard. Like some nice el34s in a Marshall amp for
example.

You need to get a zoom drum machine. You get like 250 sounds
for £100. The most cost effective way of getting a bunch of
drum sounds for next to nothing and not having to rely on
software only.

Do you have a midi keyboard with assignable knobs? I'd get
that first - lets you control all kinds of madness in the
computer especially if you're using fruity which I think you
are.

BTW did you ever get Synth1 happening?

if one were to buy a drum machine what would you need to get
the rhythms onto your computer?

ummm a wire perhaps?

Possibly a mixer - some synths have pretty low level output
that can benefit from a boost from a good quality mixer or
direct box.

i asked you how to make it work, i still don't know
what the hell is going on with it. it's just sitting there
for now, because i don't know how the poo to make it do it's
thing. heh.

If i was doing music nowadays, I wouldn't bother with any
kit other the computer...virtual has gotta be massively
cheaper than getting hardware...

The korg electribe em 1 and the er -1 are fantastic.

If your looking for a sampler I would invest in something
more exspensive.

All the cheap samplers I have owned/used really have some
issues.
Stupid tiny little flaws that make a world of difference.

The akai s20 is alright, almost worht getting one because
you learn so much from it. The little guy is your best
friend and your worst enemy : )

For synths Id say save up a few bucks then buy something you
want. Beware the preset sound though , they are designed to
knock you off your feet (IE the new Micro korg).

I'd say check out a novation bass station, a nord, or pick
up a dx synth off ebay.
