promo i dont know wether there are better looking women that
make better idm, i think that could be doubted
i stay with the argument that she looks genuine and other
stuff to maybe attrackt women to idm and warp
warp must have had reasons besides the mere connection:
they're pretty commercial

as i said, it's all in the eye of the beholder

or do you believe you can see whether ppl are criminals or
not based on their facial features too? like they did 2
centuries ago?

cuntychuck,

Well Cunt believe it or not there is actually a
scientifically defined method to recognise beauty. It is
basically that all the facial features have a perfect sort
of symetry and if they fit into that symetry then the person
is beautiful. There is actually a facial framework that
people can use and fit over a photo of someone's face and
you can see how they fit into it.

That's similar to the formula you must follow to make good
music. Otherwise it is shit.

beauty is in the eye of the beholder... it's as simple as
that... I've heard of this symmetry thing, but I don't by
it... just because your face is symettrical doesn't
necessarily mean you're beautiful... what if you have warts,
but they're symettrical to both sides of your face, and you
have a huge nose, and are bald and such... beauty is in the
eye of the beholder... simple as that... it ain't
scientific...

one last try: tell me the laws you described (which i was
aware of before you did) applied to the last two persons you
fell in love with and i might give the theory another

So, points raised in this "discussion" seem to be:-

Mira Calix is a woman.
Some people think she is attractive.
Some people feel she's only got recognition due to
assocaition with Autechre and Warp.
Some people think she doesn't make good music.
Some people think she is unattractive.
Some people feel she's worthy in her own right.
Some people think she makes good music.

So, after removing those points which have opposites, or
which are subjective, we are left with:

She is a woman.
She makes music.
She looks like a woman.
She's married to half of Autechre.

Thus I conclude: people will be either swayed by irrelevent
factors or not, and it doesn't matter what you think of her,
she's going to carry on without giving a rats fat snatch
about you.

And good for her. I like her music and I'm not influenced
either way by her looks. She is attractive, but it's
irrelevent to the music. I'd be slightly disturbed, if I was
her or her hubby, by the comments made here.

Nutters, the lot of you.*

*except the sensible ones

disclaimer: i am waiting for Enterprise to start so I'm
rambling

but see, I totally disagree... you can't scientifically try
and determine what beauty is because everyone has a
different idea of that... and even the whole idea of
symettry is suspect because one of the most beautiful girls
in my class in school, her face isn't perfectly
symettrical... so I don't buy it!

Promo, what do you think is the origin or source of the
standard concept of beauty?

Don't worry, I'm not winding up for some lefty rant on the
psychological manipulation of corporate media - personally I
think that certain traits are regarded as beautiful because
they are 80% hardwired into our genes and brains and 20%
determined by our culture. (yes I just made up those numbers
but I'm trying to express my opinion here not formulate a
doctoral dissertation)

What do you think?

once again, you baffle me. but i'm happy for you. do you
make little notes, too, when you go out? and scratch
potential symmetrical people?

;)

offline promo from United Kingdom on 2003-09-14 11:16 [#00862247]

It is to do with the carrying of genes and the greater
chance offspring have of surviving. Not sure it makes a lot
of sense to me myself. But for instance the idea is that if
you are attractive you have a better chance of having
offspring so therefore furthering the human race. And it
looks into human aspiration, science, technology and
advancement. In order to impress an attrative mate you need
to be someone who exceeds in a particular field, has power
or is attractive etc etc. This all increasing the chance of
the human race succeeding as a whole and motivates it and
pushes it forward. Something along those lines. Its all sort
of summed up in the Red Queen.

2 reasons for mira calixs success:

shes a girl doing electronic music, WOAH!

and shes married to Sean (or is it rob?well thats not the
point... the point is thats the only reason she got signed
to warp. And dont deny it either... the music buisness (yes
even the underground is a buisness) is all about who you
know, and connections. I bet warp get a fuckload of demos
all the time, that blow her out of the water... but she has
connections... and therefor, logically, she gets the record
deal. Its just the way things work)

Scripted opinions. Clichéd bullshit.

...and I've heard your music and Mira's... I know which I
prefer.
