Singing

You know, ever since I've started listening to instrumental
music, more specifically Electronic music, I have sort of
developed a dislike for singing in music... it's weird, but
now all I want is the music, and not someone telling me what
the song is about... well, to a certain extent anyways... I
find that lyrics take away from the songs openness to
interpretation... any thoughts on this people?

Yeah, know what you mean.

It almost seems to give the game away and its far to
constricting having to use something as clumsey as language
to express yourself.

Funkmaster, I feel EXACTLY the same way. Thom Yorke, I used
to think had an amazing voice, now I wish he'd shut up so I
hear the music.
I don't like singing, except if it's Lennon/McCartney or
David Gilmour.

i agree to some extent,,,,i find some vocals can sometimes
add to a songs mood,,,,,,,,,most of the time lyrics piss me
off though....
i like when people use their voice as an instrument,,,,like
in pink floyd's great gig in the sky..........

Yeah, I said to a certain extent... because I do find
vocals, and lyrics good in a way... some songs are just
perfect, and you want to sing along... the song Solsbury
Hill by Peter Gabriel is like that for me... I love the
song, and I love singing alone with it... the lyrics, and
the music together makes it an awesome song... but I have
never sat down to try and figure out what the lyrics mean,
because it doesn't matter... I don't know, it just
depends... I'm not against lyrics, cause that's stupid...
I'm just on an instrumental fix right now... Peter Gabriel,
who is one of my favorite artists, is great... he releases
music with lyrics, but also has done music that is pure
instrumental (Passion)... it just depends...

And plus, good lyricists write their lyrics very vague... so
it's open to interpretation... sometimes it's narrowed down
to a certain idea maybe, but lots of times I find it's wide
open... so lyrics aren't all bad...
