the wind waker paper mario skies of arcadia legends etc
I'm currently playing Zelda: the oracle of seasons... and loving it! Somehow it has a really nice retro-feel to it, and it's constantly reminding me of the very first NES zelda :-D
Same enemies, familiar puzzles, somewhat similar dungeon-designs. There's even a cave hidden underneath a tree that you have to burn down first, and if you enter the guy who lives there wants you to pay for breaking his door, lol. That's exactly the same joke nintendo made in the 1st zelda :-D
But at the same time it (ofcourse) also has alot more depth than the very first zelda. Lots more people to talk to, more events happening and so forth. But still it is very neat that there are all these references :-)

yes, the recent game boy zeldas have proven to be quite deep - btw, four swords is MAD fun if you can find another person, let alone three other people to play it with you.
i've noticed one flaw with wind waker lately though - it's WAY too easy in comparison to other zeldas. =(
still fantastic though. =D

"yes, the recent game boy zeldas have proven to be quite deep"
i havn't played the other one (ages) yet, i'll get that one once i finish seasons :-)
Rumor has it nintendo (again with capcom) is developing a brand new (no remake!) 2D zelda adventure for Game Boy Advance :-D That would be soooo great. Finally another game like A Link To The Past. (i recently bought a gameboyplayer for my gamecube, so i can now start enjoying all the new gameboy games :-)).
"if you can find another person,"
Yeah that's a bit of a problem though, i probably won't be able to find one :-p
I might buy the game anyway though, i really feel like replaying A Link To The Past again... it's been so long... more than 10 years i think!
Wind Waker isn't necesarily that easy... it's just a bit too short, and it recycles too many puzzles from previous zelda's (lighting all the candles in a room, pushing around blocks... etc... all these things prove no challenge to me anymore :-p). I still love the game though... let's just hope the sequel will be a little longer and more challenging.

I can't believe there has been no mention of Flashback. I used to love flashback on the megadrive(genesis). I believe(but will almost certainly be wrong) that it was the first game to include cut scenes(at least decent ones) and to have a highly realistic human movement. The way that bloke strolls along really is a work of art.
Flashback had the best ever plot, where he forgets his memory and slowly discoveres all about the conspiracy and all, as the enemies get increasingly more difficult to kill.
The levels, (especially the first) were very well designed, and the graphics on the first level are simply superb. In fact the first level of flashback is better than a lot of other RPGs in their entirety.
Its most definately a classic game, and a brilliant RPG, although it can get a bit boring towards the end. Simply play the beautiful first level, it shows you that you don't need 3d hardware or fast machines with mpeg cut scenes and stereo 44.1khz sound for a great gaming experience.

Well i always thought that game was (somewhat) the sequel to a game called "another world" (i think?) which featured the same realistic movements and beautiful cutscenes... altough that game's graphics were entirely constructed of polygons. It looked great though! You should check it out if you can find it. I remember playing it on the snes.
(it is also known under the name: "out of this world").

yes i remember that, but i couldnt remember which one came first. was it called another world/out of this world? its similar to that, but im not sure if that was the name of it. Its a shame there arent any games like that anymore. the discovery of the 3rd dimension with innovations like 3d cards was the death of 2d games. look at gta. gta(1) was a 2d wicked game which revolutionised gameplay, then by the time gta3 came along, it was all 3d completely different. now dont get me wrong, vice city played on a ps2 and big widescreen tv is a rather quasi-perfect experience(i.e damn good), but could you imagine all that effort and attention to detail as a 2d game similar to gta(1). now that would be PHAT as youths would say.
I can't be completely anti, with advances in graphics/cpu power/etc games like 'lomac' are a reality, and as a user of its predecessor (flanker2) i cant wait. but thats kinda off topic so i will stop typing in 3....2.....1.....

Shadowrun rocks :) made one badass troll with a nova-coke addiction LOL mix a bit of nova coke with a move by wwire system level 4.... add a bit of troll's HP's and you've got one badass shadowrun character....
but you decide to make it.... give him willpower just in case someone slams on the break as you're hitting coke out of a garbage bag and the DM counts it as 16 doses....

Daggerfall and Darklands probably don't fit in this thread since they are actually decent and proper role playing games, howeer I had to mention them just to get the foul taste of RPG lite out of my mind.
Not that I'm an RPG fanatic or anything, just that as a gamer it's so tedious hearing people call stuff like Zelda RPG.. just goes to show how inexperienced they are as gamers.. :D
Just cos Zelda is cool and ya get to swing a sword don't make it a proper RPG kiddies.

I remember Flashback, some pretty good cinematics for the 16 bit era! Almost polygonal-ish. I wouldn't consider it an RPG, per se... but it definitely has elements of one.
In a similar style, Out of this World is good too, and Blackthorne was a nice dungeon crawler for SNES... shooting prisoners with your shotgun non-chalantly while you weren't even looking at them was always fun.
Has anyone played Breath of Fire 4 or Dark Cloud 2 for Playstation 2, I've been thinking of getting them...
