How would you feel if I took 10$ from your account when I felt like it or when I didn't have enough money to get a taxi?

If a release is worth buying I buy it, if it isn't I delete it and don't bother. Most music is wank these days. I have ordered the Chris Clark ting, and the new LFO album but nothing else has been worth the cash for a while now.
I just listen to stuff people post on here and my own junk :D

How would you feel if you were a musician whose music was never heard because cartels controlled the channels of distribution with an iron grip?
Control - that's what this whole thing is about. And if the RIAA has their way they'll remove your ability to create and distribute your music for free or for pay without paying them a fee.
The days of cash cow conumer music are ending. Let us hope the cartels either adapt or quietly fade away without smothering a communications revolution that dwarfs Gutenberg.

That's bullshit really, people just don't want to pay for what they get. I reckon if someone takes the time to make something I like and use then I have no problem with wacking them money for it. That's why I donated to this site and why I will always buy music I like, I just download it as a preview.

It's not bullshit at all; I would have never known about all this music I hear now if it weren't for file sharing. And that means that I am buying from smaller independant labels, not the RIAA nazis.

I am a musicain, I live off the music I make. I don't need to work a day ever again, I've made a life for myself. I feel sorry for people that get ripped off by cunts like you that think you are on some moral crusade fighting corporate institutions. You're a pathetic tit. In a few years maybe you'll understand what I'm saying, untill then fuck off.

I have no problem paying for music. I have hundreds of vinyls and cassettes and CDs and MP3s from paid services. I resent concentration (and thus homogenization) of the media. Downloading is pretty much the only way I can find out about worthwhile music.

JivverDicker: Don't you think it's only fair for people to have the option to hear the music first to see if they like it, before blowing $15-$20 on a cd only to find out it's pure shit. Because personally, I pretty much agree with you on the issue, if you like the artist and their music then you should support them by purchasing their cd/s. But I still love having the option to hear the music before I buy it. And if I find that I like it, then I have no problem going out and buying their cd's for the sole purpose of supporting the artist. But the bullshit thing is, artists really don't make jack shit from cd sales. They make most of their money from touring and mechandise. For example, a CD with an SLRP of $16.98, minus a common packaging deduction of 25% (which is $4.25) the amount paid to the artist will then be calculated as a percentage of $12.73. Thus, at a 10% royalty, artists will only receive a mere $1.27; and at a 14% royalty rate, a whopping $1.78. This is such total bullshit imo. The only reason I buy cd's, is to show my support for the artist's I enjoy, so they will be able to continue creating the music I love. So when I stop to think that close to 90% of the hard earned money I just spent on a cd is going straight into the filthy pockets of the CEO cock suckers at the record company, it makes me a little pissed off. But I will continue to buy cd's from the artist's I enjoy and respect, for nothing else except to give them my support. And another thing, if it wasn't for my ability to download music, I wouldn't have discovered at least 90% of the electronic music/artists I've come to know and love. And that's an utter shame, to think I would've never had the opportunity to experience this amazing music.

I personally have no interest whatsoever in downloading albums... the only downloading I do is when I want some songs that are impossible to get, or I'm just unable to get here... or if I just want one song by the particular artist... I will always buy cds, because I love cds... I love the artwork, and plus I just like having an actual copy of an album!
