I might be nuts, but it seems like there is some kind of connection between the two. Squarepusher is phenomenal, Clifford Gilberto is a beast, and now I'm listening to Ochre and there are a few tracks I've listened to with what seems to be live bass. I play electric bass and I find these people to be very inspiring, especially for a formally trained musician like myself that primarily plays with actual bands and live people.

FUCK YEAH! :) Ultimate beast, he is. "Problem Child" has a pretty sick bassline too. I saw some pics of his recent US tour and he was beasting a 6 string Warwick, I believe. I'm still kicking myself for missing that.

Hah, yep! Not too familiar or fond of either's music, but I greatly respect them. I like Jaco a lot and I dig early funk and new funk. One of my favorite groups is Soulive, which is just utterly incredible. I've seen them live 2 times and I can't help but smile and move when I experience them. I've actually met the entire band and chilled with them for a good 10 minutes, which was pretty surreal. Got their sig's and all. In that band, though, there is no bass player, the organ player handles that all.

Yeah... I played bass years ago for a garage/industrial/punk/goth band...
Now I just do the computer music thing... 2 lap tops hooked to a mixer and stuff...
But my side project... (Souvlakia) is 2 of us... My friend plays guitar... And I control all I mentioned before plus keyboards and "Occasional" bass...

can play bass tho i probably tend to play it a little like a guitar, can't remeber if it was paino or guitar that was my first instrument i learned, i prefer the sound of recorded bass on tracks, something about it, sound of sliding between frets maybe?
