...I have noticed quite a few references to sonic youth on this board. I am guessing that there is a sizeable crossover between them and the rdj/idm crew. Or I could just be fucking wrong...

hey async, what part of DC are you from?
anyway, i think there's just a meeting of openminded people who aren't just in it for the 3 minute songs with a catchy chorus. so whether it's an interest in the general experimerimental/unusual attitude or just appreciation for different instruments or normal instruments used differently, there's a lot of overlap between fans of "idm" and avant garde rock music

i dont have much either (daydream nation, goo, thousand leaves, nyc ghosts and flowers and i just got sy3)
syr 3 is incredible, i definately like their more experimental stuff. theres a new syr in the works that is kim gordon and a collaborator, i just read about it somewhere(i think the wire) but i forgot who she was working with. wait a second, i think it was ikue mori and maybe someone else, sounds like a good combo to me. she was in DNA for those unfamiliar with her, they were a no wave band, which is where sy got their roots from.

Yeah, the next SYR (SYR 6) is a collaboration with Brigitte Fontaine and Areski, I think.
