My first AFX album, what should it be?

I'm going to buy some Aphex Twin but there's so much shit
out there from them. Please guide me in selecting a good
album to introduce me, sort of.

Well I think their best work is I Care Because You Do.

I Care Because You Do is excellent, essential if you're a
fan ( ok, you're not one yet, but you might become! =) ),
just be warned it's kinda hard to get into at first
listens...
RDJ album is easier (though too short, and not as varied -
more cartoonish-sounding too).
SAW 85-92 is a great album too, though not that
representative of later Aphex Twin... but a good place to
start i guess.

i'd recommend one of those for a start?

Druqks is his most accomplished imo. Sure it's got some
filler shit, but ignore all the piano and noise cack and you
have a solid single album of amazing drill n bass! (and some
of the piano stuff is fairly accomplished i guess)

I think I'll get "I Care Because You Do,", and then download
tracks from the other CD's you've all recommended.

I suggest smojphace, a massively emotional and thought
provoking work which is equally enjoyable for both first
time listeners and experienced fans.

I would start at the Aphex Twin beginning with Selected
Ambient Works 85-92.

Whats this their business? Aphex Twin is one person ok!

offline horsefactory from 💠 (United Kingdom) on 2003-09-02 15:50 [#00846915]

or you could skip aphex twin and go straight to autechre

offline Dannn_ from United Kingdom on 2003-09-02 15:53 [#00846920]

I think Come To Daddy is the best to start with, its cheap
for one thing, and its varied.

offline promo from United Kingdom on 2003-09-02 15:56 [#00846927]

I think people should start at the beginning, listen to
Analogue Bubblebath or Polygon Window and progress through
his stuff that way. I think those who have listened to Aphex
since more or less the beginning appreciate all his output
and appreciate the whole range of electronic music in
general.

Hmm so many choices. I think I'll try and get his early
stuff but will check out "I Care Because You Do."

If you dont get on with his early stuff dont give up there ,
give drukqs a listen before you make your mind up .

have fun :)

oh the discoveries you are going to make! i almost envy you
:)

Dannn_ is right, Come To Daddy is the best choice, it's
diverse and shows what the man is capable of. Just download
Flim and you'll be convinced.

Yes the discovery part is so nice. It is enviable.

just one person?
