 | The world is becoming to extreme in it's views...people are either dead set for something, or dead set against it.

America and Britain, while having some shitty laws, are
generally free. These anti terrorism measures will have
very little or no effect on the vast majority of people, and
as the governments have been scare mongering over the
terrorism issue, now other groups are doing the same thing
 to the governments.
I am getting pretty bored with the whole thing.

Personally I have nothing to hide so none of this shit
bothers me. Steps like these are necesarry to a certain
extent and it would be simplistic to think otherwise.

Sure it would be nice if the world could get by with
everyone being smiley and happy, but life just doesn't pan
out that way and never will :(

 | That's the problem, you know... people saying "meh, this won't affect me" (though as most people in this thread are
on the wrong continent, they'd be right this time as long as
they stay out of the US) or "I'm innocent, I have nothing to
fear." That's how Bad Things tend to happen. Blah blah blah
slippery slope, I'm sure you've heard it all a hundred times
before, but that doesn't mean there's no reason to be
 concerned about it.

 | "Personally I have nothing to hide so none of this shit bothers me."

That may be true now but what about in the future? What if
they, as it tends to transpire, widen the scope of the
legislation to include things like minor misdameaners,
traffic offences, breaking a curfew? Once the system is in
place, that's it. No going back.

How all pervasive does it have to be before you start
worrying? Personally, I don't want the State to know all
about my financial transactions, what books I borrow, my
political sympathies, my medical history or the ability to
know where I am at any given time. The Stasi would be
creaming in their pants at the thought of the laws our
 governments are passing.

'First they came for the Jews, but I wasn't a Jew so I
didn't speak out. Then they for the communists and I wasn't
a communist so I didn't speak out. Then they came for me and
there wasn't anyone left to speak up for me'

 Sounds about wright.

 | So they have started publically stating that they are doing stuff they have always done. There is no need to get all
worried about it now, nor is there any point in fighting
against it. At the end of the day it is always going to
happen, and people bitching about it on the internet isn't
 going to stop it.

 | They have always done this? Maybe in totalitarian regimes and behind the iron Curtain they did but not so much here --
the technology to track finacial transactions, medical
databases and communications is relatively new.

Read this report from todays paper...

Political police are now more intrusive than at any time ...

"... nor is there any point in fighting against it. At the
end of the day it is always going to happen"

 Wow! Accept your servitude, eh?

Go back to sleep, you're government is in control. Shut up.
 Be happy.

Beg to differ. The Social Security Card/Number has been
around for decades in the U.S. And has been a very
efficient way of rounding up a person transactions, from the
 Library Memberships to Credit Cards.
