New on Second Thought Records: Greg Jackson - The Golden
Hour.

Greg's debut EP is a mixed release, ranging from short
acoustic songs, to mixed, looped guitarry instrumentals and
Radiohead-sounding epics.
1. Untitled 1
2. Absent Attacks
3. Not Like You
4. Untitled 2
5. Untitled 3
6. When I Wear Red Things Go Bad
7. Horoscopes

The Golden Hour was originally going to be released as a
full band EP called Ricochet, but as time passed, I lost a
drummer, and delved deeper into a wider taste in music than
my initial indie rock beginnings, leading to a new selection
of more optimistic songs written, as opposed to the teen
angst-ridden material of the original tracklist.
Untitled 1 was a number of short guitar ideas for different
songs which never really worked, and ended up meshed
together in a short instrumental. Absent Attacks are similar
to epileptic fits, in which people blank out, the song
itself is a Syd Barrett-esque stroll into the world of the
slightly surreal. Not Like You is the only remaning song
from the Ricochet era, and is a classic example of
bitterness towards self-centered individuals who are seek
personal gratification. Untitled 2 was a short jam, and
after several attempts at studio recording, it was decided
none captured the same feel as the original demo, recorded
on a 2-track in my bedroom. That version appears here.
Untitled 3 comes from original classical leanings, with a
slight folky feel. The birds were initially intended to be
slowed down, but left at the correct pitch after it was
decided the track shouldn't sound evil. When I Wear Red
Things Go Bad is a silly sentimental song, which is
basically about the quirkiness you get when you like
someone, and the paranoia that comes with it too. Musically,
it was inspired by Rubber Soul-era Beatles and classic
doo-wop chord progessions. Horoscopes is one my most recent,
and probably most sincere songs, about a fictional girl who
is wistful and deeply believe in fate, and when things go
wrong, just accepts it. Helped strongly by Ross

who contributed the keyboards and drums, leaving the version
here very different from the acoustic demo.
