OK, Autechre.

Ok, just a little intro:

Having been curious about the music of AE for ages, about a
year ago I bought the EP "Peel Sessions 2" just for the sake
of having a little sample of music.

Looking back, I know it was a stupid thing to do.
About three months ago, I bought an 808 State CD that I
hated (some of you might remember the obscene topic I
created about it -- "808 State - CRAP"), and anyway I
brought it back to the store to exchange it.

I asked for advice here at Xltronic - it was either gonna be
Squarepusher's Feed Me Weird Things or Chiastic Slide.
Someone made a comment (I think it was Asche XL that just
sorta stuck - I remeber him saying "Get Chiastic Slide -
it's brilliant" or something like that).

So I did. Now I classify CS as probably one of the (if not
the) all-time best album.

Now we're back at last Friday. Having been affectged by CS
the way that I was, I decided to buy another AE epic album.
After many thoughts, I set out to buy Tri Repetae
(unfortunately, we don't have the ++ version here in Perth,
and I don't know where to order it from) and...would you
guess it? The store didn't have it. So I went to another
one, where it was more expensive, and managed to persuade
the guy to take $5 Aus off the price.

Tri Repetae is also amazing. Listening to the 30-sec samples
on the net just doesn't do anything for the music on this
release - it is powerful. And so now, I'm officially
on the Autechre train, determined to collect their stuff.

My next purchase shall be "LP5" logically, since I didn't
really go for Incunubula and Amber, though I may pick them
up later on if I'm desperate.

My question is: Is LP5 a good album? Because the melodies is
CS were sensational, and this is the next full-length LP and
I'm hoping it will keep me in good spirits with AE.

Any advice would be appreciated.

(Sorry for this long essay!)
-Toe

:)

Umm I just bought it at 78s ahges ago. I could be wrong of
course. Oh and don't ask me to remember track names lol
they're all track1, track2 etc to me coz I always have the
CDs in a Cd wallet and never with the cases and even then I
rarely look at the track names.

LP5 is ace. moreso than chiastic slide, in my opinion (but
remember, it's probably my least favorite autechre release.
i'm silly like that).

but it's a shame amber and incunabula don't do anything for
you. those are my favs. =*[

i'd actually say go get ep7. mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
tasty goodies, indeed.

oh, no worries :)

78's eh? Tri Rep++ should have 2 discs...
Anvil Varpe and Garbage eps?

I don't know. *shrugs*

Tracks 2, 3, 4 and 7 are awesome'ajh.

I hate trk 5, the high-pictched whiny one that just waders
around in circles for 10 minutes though....

ambsace:

EP7 will be after LP5 don't worry! (That CD's not goin'
anywhere with that coverart and grainy case - I love shit
like that!)

And I prob. will like Amber and Incunubula if I had a chance
with them. I'm just leaving them till later...

nah I was wrong, only one disc. Hm. weird I was sure it said
tri rep++ on it. But then again my brain isn't the most
trustworthy character lately.

I think I like all the tunes on tri rep but the last one is
kind of crap imho.

brillaint album to listen to when you're stoned and have the
whole ambient thing happening, wicked wicked junglismassiv

yeah.

speaking of ambient, i bought Warp's compilation "Artificial
Intelligence II" a while ago. It's got an
exclusive-to-the-album AE track called Chatter. The whole
album's really lush and ambient.

Listening now, in fact!

tapped from the inside...

Good reperesentation? ;)

Everything about CS is perfect...

Let's see:

Cipater - awesome, 4/4 vs 3/4 time works perfectly, great
melodies and screech sound that sounds like a gate needing
an oil.

Cichli - Beautiful beyond words.

Hub - Mysterious and great time signature that takes time to
work out.

Calbruc - Nightmare that turns into a lullaby- love this
one.

Recury - Amazing what a looping rhythm can do, and that
sound you hear in the beat that sounds like copper pipes
dropping on the ground is great. So is the organ/melody
section.

Nuane - Perfect closer.

everything else (with the exception of hub) is kinda "meh".

when stood up next to all ae's other stuff...i just don't

Oh, and if anyone cares, my favourite Autechre albums are
Chiastic Slide and Confield. Because I think they're good.
So therefore I like them.

LP5 is my fave release by them, although i also listen to
Confield and Draft pretty religiously. Wuts so great about
Autechre is how each album varies so differntly. Look at
the three i just mentioned, they are all completely
different in sound. For this reason i rarely get sick of
Autechre.

lp5 is one of the best electronic albums ever. hands down
great melodic and rhythmic content. a varied record. lots of
ground covered there. that album did alot for me, as far as
opening the doors of possibility in music.

just so you know all autechre albums are good... so don't
worry about getting all of them.......

About LP5: for me it was one of those groundbreaking albums

by all means get it.... EP7 is sort of a companion piece
which you'll also want.... then get confield and your mind

lp5's tracks are very good.
lp as a whole album is ok.

it's strange, i don't know why - some albums are the
contrary (very good as a whole but no track especially
brillant), but this one is the contrary of this contrary.

seeing how much you love Autechre there are pretty good
chances you will love it anyway! (no?)

get Confield. : )

Rsdio kinda sounds like the music to a Sega game I used to
play in the 80's. Maybe Rygar or something like that. I
