eyeball-men dressed in smokings!

what do you recommend by them if you know them? =)

why are they sometimes four eyeball-men and sometimes three
eyeball-men and one skull-man? (did one of them die)?

No, one of their eyeball heads were stolen from a show.
That's the main vocalist, the skull. I recommend Duck
Stab/Buster & Glen.

havent heard much of them but ive heard their newest one is
supposedly good but then again i guess itd make sense to
start off with "meet the residents"

holy crap, someone else out there knows of them...
they are so fucking incredible but I DON'T KNOW COS nobody
knows about them! NOBODY! that's their gimmick... they have
never been onstage out of costume. I know there is at least
one female.

Duck Stab was tempting me, yes...

but "Our Poor, Our Tired, Our Huddled Masses" seems like a
good introduction too, isn't it?: )

i wouldnt recommend our poor, our tired, our huddled masses.
they tried to include music from every record they did, but
their many concept-albums only work as a whole. so they put
CONCENTRATED versions of their concept-albums on this
compilation.
that may give you an idea of how these albums sound, but i
dont think that its too enjoyable.

the best album to start with is, as i already said, duck
stab. I'D SAY.

my current residents top-ten.

1. the third reich'n'roll
2. eskimo
3. demons dance alone
4. mark of the mole
5. wb:rmx
6. meet the residents
7. commercial album
8. stars and hank forever
9. god in three persons
10. roadworms

duck stab/buster glenn is pretty special...

meet the residents is also good, but they have a lot of
records i haven't heard. it seems like the early stuff is
better.

Mark of the Mole is my favorite Residents album

Haven't picked up anything by them since Demons.

Is Animal Lover, Tweedles, or Bunny Boy any good? Which of
those three is the best?

Check out Commercial Album, if you haven't already. It's
from 1988.
If you can track down the original version it is 50 or so
songs that are all about a minute each.. Really cool album.

Catfood -- I think Animal Lover is a pretty good album.

thanks for the recommendation, idle. All this talk of
Residents is making me hungry for more music by them, I
might give Animal Lover a shot.

minor correction, the original Commercial Album had 40 songs
(not 50). I believe the band wanted to mirror a top 40
countdown radio show.

It was my understanding that original version had 40
tracks... Cut down to 40 for the re-issue.

50 cut down to 40 rather.
I had too much Shiraz.

I would go first with the Commercial Album. It's fantastic
and very listenable. Second off, probably Duck Stab / Buster
& Glen. After that, Third Reich and Roll or Eskimo. I think
their music got worse as they got into the 90s
personally...

If you guys like old Ralph Records stuff, I'd like to just
throw Renaldo and the Loaf into this thread as well. Songs
for Swingin' Larvae is a really great album...

Cheers!

wasn't Yello's earliest records on Ralph (Solid Pleasure and
Claro Qui Si?)
