laptop through the mic input, do i need to get a sound card

hmmm, guess you need some new stuff, cause even if it has a
card it´s not quality enough for what you wanna do ...

dont listen to oki, hopefully, your laptop should have a
"line in", dont use the microphone input.. it WILL sound
like crap. only use the mic input if you actually plan on
recording vocals or any thing close by you want sampled
digitally. otherwise you will need a line in and a
crossover male-to-male cable of some sort to record from a
microcasette or anything with a headphone jack, etc to your
laptops line in. hope that helps yah

also, phiz, the best program to sample stuff on your
computer would be sound forge. cool edit pro aint bad
either. of course you can always use microsoft sound
recorder :P but i wouldnt recommend it.

cheers member,
i've got soundforge but it i couldnt figure out how to set
it up to take in sound from the mic input, when i pressed
record it wasn't receiving any signal, any ideas how to set
it up, i'll check for the line in when i get home tonight.
thanx for the advice.

I sometimes have a similair problem.

Try going to the bottom left of the sceen and select
programmes - accesories - mulitmedia - volume control

sometimes on my computer the mic is mute

if you don't have a 16 bit sound card your samples will
sound like shit.

cheers oki,
new gear is not an option i'm afraid, looks like my tunes
will now be classed as 'lo-fi'

where there's a will there's a way!!!
