Tonight I watched this French documentary called GMA -
Genetically Modified Athletes, and the soundtrack was
crammed with Aphex tracks!

Tracks that they played: (In brackets their spelling errors
in the credits)

Kladfvgbung Micshk (Kladf Ygbung Micshk)
The Waxen Pith
Next Heap With
Gwarek2 (Gwarek)
Bit4
Wet Tip Hen Ax (Wep Tip Tenaxe) (!)
Gwely Mernans (Gwety Mernans)
Wax The Nip
Icct Hedral (Icct Hedra)

They also played a track from Req.

Needless to say I was quite excited to hear all this, but
this hardly sustains an interesting topic. So...

Post your thoughts on genetics and cloning. Do you think it
is morally wrong to create clones of animals and people? Or
do you think cloning is a natural progression of science.
Also, post whether you think genetically modified food is a
good idea or not.

And if you had a clone of yourself what are the things you'd
get it to do that you'd never do yourself? :)

clones sucks as... especially that type of cloning where
you create new individuals... don't know what it's called...

That Sifl & olly episode where Sifl clones himself to cut
down on the cost of getting expensive celebrity guests is
hilarious. The clones end up all weird and retarded, and one
of them even thinks he's Jack Nicholson...and Sifl tries
dismissing the bad clones as unruly cousins that won't go
away. Fucking classic.

Yeah and anyway, how mainstream is this documentary? Could
one motivated individual in South Carolina find such an
artifact?

Oh and in the same said episode, a puppet with bad teeth and
a pot on his head calls in and yells "Where do you get your
fuckin' apples from?"

It was Johnny Fuckin Appleseed...

its a complex issue...

theoretically... Id say yes, lets allow cloning. Make humans
healthier, get rid of birth defects, make everyone
intellegent, and compasionate, and non-violent, etc etc...

but in reality... no one would make such a person. It would
all be funded by a govt/military program, and so alls we
would get out of this is super soldiers.

lets see, make a healthy, good person, who adds alot to our
society, or make a human that can endure combat longer and
with more effectiveness...

guess who theyll pick...

and also, even if we made clones/genetically modified
humans... then it would turn into this whole "natural" vs
"artificile" thing... and it would just be a whole new form
of "racism" if you can call it that.

they should only allow cloning in cases of great human
benefit, such as the unique thrill of blowing your
doppelganger away with a shotgun blast to the face, or to
create miniture versions of animals so that you can make
them have sex on camera

OR

make miniture humans, to have sex on camera...

...adding a whole new meaning to saying "my porn
collection"

It would be cool if they like put in termination dates into
the clones and the clones would go beserk trying to find out
how to stay alive. Like seeking out the scientists who made
them and crushing their skulls with their bare hands and
then in the end they would not kill anymore because they
loved life too much. Some of the more violent clones would
say stuff like, "Let me tell you about my mother!"

That would be neat.

-P

a clone will age to the age of its genetic donor at the time
of extraction of the genetic material- the first few
generations of human clones would grow at the normal rate
but age terribly, and look like the kids in akira.

well assuming that is the donor was of adult age- in blade
runner are they cyborgs with cloned material or just
superior clones?

offline Zeus from San Francisco (United States) on 2003-08-19 10:50 [#00828032]
Points: 14042 Status: Lurker

they are made from scratch in blade runner

but can kind of be considered clones... because there was
different models, and you could have 2 of the same model...
look the same and everything...

but they arnt clones, cause they didnt have an orginal human
that they copied... they were just made from scratch

the animals?

I think cloning would/will be a bad idea in terms of our
necessity for disease to keep a sort of equilibrium in the
population (which is not in equilibrium; it's growing). I
think it would be cool, on the other hand, to see what the
black market would be like. Buy a sex slave for $100,000.
Someone who stays locked in the closet until you need a
partner for Unreal Championship Instragib. The
possibilities are enless.

LOL :)

i dont any beef with genetic engineering or cloning in
principle
i mean, we should be careful, but i dont have any moral
objections or anything like that
